You won't lose any of your data unless there is a freak accident during installation. A newer version of windows isn't necessarily better. I'm guessing the reason why you have Windows 2000 now is because your computer is probably around 5 years old or so. Upgrading to a newer version of Windows such as XP or Vista is going to be more taxing on your system because it's built for more modern machines with more processing power and more memory. You have to ask yourself what's wrong with what you have now. Are there features in XP or Vista that you can't live without? If yes, then persue an upgrade, but know that your computer will probably run a bit slower as a result. You just have to go to the store and buy it, pop in the CD and it will upgrade your version of Windows. If no, then you should probably stick with what you've got, at least until you upgrade your computer first. There's nothing wrong with Windows 2000 (unlike Windows Millenium Edition!) and as a matter of fact, I use it on my main home system every day. I really have no desire to move up to XP or Vista and have to buy more RAM or a new motherboard to keep it running smoothly after the "upgrade".

Ditto the first answer, but you CAN UPDATE free on MS site if you're considering changing it for comaptibility issues. For many reasons (im a tech for a living) win 2000 is a GREAT opsys, but I personally have and prefer win2000 PRO

This is a case where... "if it ain't broke, don'tfix it". forget about "keeping up with the Jones's it'll only help you go broke faster.

UNLESS you have game compatib. reasons and then still... why?
Good Luck
