Marylin Monroe was a size 14. In her day she was hot. In this day of annorexic fashion models some jerks would call her obese.
All you men out there do me a favor.
1] Don't expect your woman to be any thinner than you are.
2] Don't expect your woman to be a lot younger than you are.
3] Grow up and date someone based on shared interests and values and stop using a measuring stick to pick out a woman.
Face it fellas, everyone packs on a few pounds after the wedding so you better pick based on how well you get along.

It depends on what size chart you are going by. A 12-14 on the modern US size chart is different from the old US size chart, is different from the UK size chart, is different from the "vanity sizing" many companies now use, and many companies use their own standard.
On the modern US standard size chart, developed in the 80's, a size 12 is 37-38" bust, a 29-30" waist, and 40-41" hips.
On the same chart, a 14 is a 39-40" bust, a 31-32" waist, and 42-43" hips.
If a woman says she is a size 12-14, then she fits into both, depending on the item: cut, style, designer, etc... She is not necessarily "fat" just because she wears a 12 or a 14. Whether or not she was overweight can't be determined just by her dress size. Height, weight distribution, body type, bone structure, and age are what determines if a person is over, under, or ideal weight. Dress size doesn't mean a thing, it's just a number on the tag of your clothing; it has nothing to do with health.

Whoever's saying that 12-14 is near 40 in guys is WAY off. I'm a bigger girl (16/18ish.. depending on brand and where it's supposed to fit) and I'm only 36 at the waist (bellybutton). But girls clothing also usually fits arround the hips instead of the waist like mens. A 12-14 is a very average size. Not skinny but not fat. If you just go to a public place and look arround, any girl that doesn't look skinny or fat is probably near that size.

A size 12 is the size of the average American woman. Size 12 clothes are designed to fit a woman with a 28-30 inch waist and 39-40 inch hips.
Men's clothing are cut with a 0.8 ratio between waist and hips whereas women's clothing is cut with a 0.7 ratio. This means a man with 40 inch hips would have a waist of 34 inches, whereas a woman with 40 inch hips would have a waist of 30 inches. A man's 34 waist pants would fit her hips but be very wide in the waist.

I am 20 and I am a size 11-13, which is...equivilant to a size 12-14, and I am slender. My waist size is a 34-36 depending on the type of pants.

How FAT is a girl size 12-14, well it is the average size of a woman in the United States today, as far as translating into a man;s size very difficult for the obvious reason, a man that is 6'4 with a 34 inch waist is kicking, a man with a 34 inch waist that is 5;2 is somewhat bigger. so the answer is she will probably be cuvey unless she is like 6 feet, then she will be pretty thin, if she is 4'11 she maybe a little thicker

a girl who wears a 12 is hardly fat, but isn't the skinniest of the bunch. If she's fat or not depends on her shape.. She could be chunky, but I've known some girls who had skinny waists and had to wear that size because they had round hips or big bums- curvy girls. I don't know what the equivent is in mens sizes. I'm 5'6 and 140 lbs, and I wear a size 8, but my best friend is my height and 130lbs, and wears a 12. It all depends on her shape.

She doesn't have to be fat at all... Is she tall? Big boned?? I use to be size 12-14 and I am 5'6 and weighed around 144-145 lbs. I wasn't 'oh my god she's coming this way', but I could afford to lose some weight (which I did). It truly depends on different factors...wish I could help.
At the time, I was a 34'waist (mens).

A size 12 - 14 is not necessarily fat. She could be tall. You cannot judge by sizes. A person can be short and heavy and wear a small size.
QVC.com has a size chart that may help you.
