To be honest, if he looked at it closely first, the guy probably knew that he was doing - just was hoping you wouldn't notice.
Since you've left KFC now, you have no way of proving that the counterfeit money came from them. You could have switched it when you got home.
Even if you'd acted on it right there and then, it would have been hard to prove it was their coin and not one of a few you had in your wallet.
Plus, even if you did try and sue them and won (which you wouldn't) - you would only get £1 back through the courts.

Sure you can sue, but you probably can't prove it and will lose. Try writing a polite complaint letter to the manager and corporate headquarters. In the letter, focus on how rude the clerk was when you brought the counterfeit back and how you were dissatisfied with the service and that you were offended on how they handled the situation. Maybe they'll give you a free bucket of wings, or at least a coupon.

you did not get counterfeit money, you got foreign currency. That's a differnt matter entirely. Had you noticed it when you first got it you should have handed it back to the guy right away. But once you walk out you're pretty well screwed. But to answer your question, sure, you can sue anyone for anything. But I think a judge would find no merit to your claim.
Look at the bright side, the British pound is worth over $2. You can go exchange that at a bank and come out ahead anyway.

There are several issues involved. If you had a loss as a result and could show the bill came from the store you could sue. If it was only a dollar it would not be worth taking to small claims court except maybe to make you feel beter. You would get your costs if you win. You might do better to report the counterfit to the local police and tell them where you think it came from. You could also approach the store manager , explain what you think happened , and ask for a different dollar. Was the bill confiscated by the bank or police ?

No, but I would think that a letter to corp. headquarters or the store manager should produce a refund. On the counterfeit money you should turn it over to the police.

Seriously, is it really worth your time and effort for one pound? Are people actually that petty? If you left the store, you have no way a proving that is came from the store.

no, unfortunately you can't (money is the responsibility of the bank). it's not something that they are responsible for. Now if they gave you counterfeit mashed potatoes they could be in trouble
