My ABS light comes on occasionally, but not my brake lights. I just got my brakes fixed (new pads and rotors) a couple of months ago -- I plan on taking this into a technician but will not be able to do so for a few days. Until then, can I get some ideas? Does brake fluid affect the ABS? Does this just mean that my ABS doesn't work and my brakes are fine? Could it possibly be time for a brake fluid flush?

It is not an emergency, but you need to have it looked at as soon as possible.
According to my owners manual, which I had too look at because my ABS light came on, your brakes will work fine, but you will not have the controlled braking that the ABS does when you need to stop in an emergency.
I had to replace the ABS pump and motor, it was under warranty, and it took a few day for them to get the parts. If you are paying for it out of your own pocket, they should be able to do it in a day or so.
I would check with the person that did your pads and rotors, and see if they may have not connected something properly.
Be careful and make sure that you have extra room between cars.

The ABS system on an automobile is extremely complicated and consists of myriad components. Simply because the ABS lamp illuminates on your dash does not mean your ABS has become dysfunctional; but it might. To answer your specific questions: It's not likely the ABS warning lamp is indicating a brake fluid problem, but it is possible, depending on your type of automobile. More than likely you're being alerted to an ABS issue. If your ABS is inoperative, your brakes are not "fine". Perhaps the mechanics of the brake system, apart from the ABS are O.K.. However if the ABS is compromised, so is the brake system. ABS is an integral part of the total system. You need to get it looked at ASAP.

The abs light is working off your computer, and most likely the person who did the rotor and brake pad unplug the brake senor wire on the rotor This will make your light come it has nothing to do with your brake fluid. your brake will work okay. your ABS is for when yu stop really fast it keep your tire from locking up.

Low brake fluid or air in the brake lines can affect that. If the brakes feel OK (not mushy or pull) then check the fluid level. Could be as simple as the mechanic forgetting to refill the master cylinder.

an ABS light doesn't mean that your brakes aren't working
it could mean a million things, but since you just got your brakes done, my guess would be that it has something to do with a sensor. It's definitely something that you want to get checked out as soon as possible though, but you don't have to worry about driving and not being able to stop.

General rule of thumb - when a dash light comes on:
red means that you should get it checked out as soon as possible
yellow means you should get it checked out whenever you get around to it
