Ok, so I am due in four days and am pretty uncomfortable. Now I know that some of you are going to just say... wait, it's not much longer... My question is this - have any of you tried and succeeded with any of the "theories" on inducing your own labor? I've tried raspberry tea, sex and spicy food. Still, nothing. I also do understand that none of these things are guarenteed to work or even be true, but throw me a bone here - I'm tired of feeling so huge and just want to hold my baby. I also just don't want to be late. FYI - this is my third baby. Went 3 days early with the first and 4 days late with the second. Help! Desperate and waiting.......

If the baby is not ready then nothing will work. If you want to try the tings that don't have negative side effects then do just just to see what happens.

Things like castor oil has side effects. It may work but let me tell you from someone who has been there....being in full labor and having your poop be as think as your pee= NOT FUN! Plus, if it doesn't work then you will be misrable with stomich cramps and the runs.

Red rasberry tea is NOT meant to bring on labor. It is for toning your uterus to make it more effective during labor. It needs to be taken during the entire last trimester to do any good.

Sex is a good one. there is something in the mans sperm that help soften the cervix. You can also take evening primrose oil tables and that will help soften it. Also when a woman climaxes then it gets her usterus to contract and releases a hormone that could trigger labor. Nipple stimulation also releases this hormone

Unfortunatly, unless your 'ready,' none of the 'theories' work. But if you are ready, they actually can speed up the process, so don't give up on them. One othe suggestion, is to keep walking, gravity works, and it helps speed the 'getting ready' part up. I know my mother ran stairs to try and break her water, but that doesn't work either, and only made her back hurt...so don't go to too much of an extreame. One other thing to be careful with are the remidies that include laxatives. They can pass through the placenta and on to your baby causing them to have a bowl movement (maconium stain) it is dangerous to use them, so try the other alternitives. You may already know some of this, since this is your third, but Good luck and you are right, you are SO close! Keep up on the 'theories' becuase they really can work if you are ripe for labor. Best Wishes!

You're not gonna like this, but try not to think about it. Read a book. Watch a movie. Relax (as much as possible). When I tried to occupy myself with other things, especially cleaning and organizational tasks, time went by a lot faster. I know it's hard, just hang in there. The misery will be worth it in the end! Another thing that helped was having friends over to play board games or cards to pass time.

Wow...I have 4 days to go as well. I, too, am desperate. Went to midwife yesterday and I'm not even dilated to 1. Cervix is completely closed. Not at all effaced. It's very frustrating. I don't have an answer for you, but I'll be putting this question on my watch list to see what advice you get. Good Luck!!! Believe me, I know how you're feeling.

Caster Oil~ But it loosens your stool so you might poop all over if you go into labour!!!

I did everything to have my first baby~ Took caster oil, had sex, played with my breasts, walked up and down the stairs, jumping jacks... I barely sat down that day~ contractions started that night... Just be careful and Good Luck!!!

Walking has always been the best thing from what i hear. My friend was like you, had a week to go, she was ready. We took a very long walk, and the very next morning, i was a godmommy. Best of luck to you.

When i went into preterm labor this is everything the doctor told me not to do to prevent labor again, NO sex ,no long walk, no long car rides, no nipple stimulation. Mabey one of them will help.
Good luck!!!!!!!!
