I have a mole problem in the garden but can't seem to find any information. I caught one in a humane trap and released it elsewhere but after a few days I got another one! Are they solitary? Using a humane mole trap at the mo that you have to bury. Any other ideas?

we had moles in our garden and the pest control removed them with pelets. there inserted through the most recent holes.
it isn't humane though apparently the it's the same poison the nazi's used in ww2 but in pelets. we ain't got any moles anymore though. there are no adverse effects to humans or at least not yet

Moles are not really a problem. Moles generally are eating all the insects and nasties that live in the soil that would do much more harm to your plants if allowed to go unchecked. Moles get a bad rap. They are more beneficial than detrimental. They seldom chew up your plants, it is the insects and other things that live below the soil that are harming your plants. However, if you cant live with the mole, an oudoor cat will usually bag a mole in no time. Removing them and taking them away does not work. They generally come back to home unless you take them to another state. The mole that you got a coulle days after removing the first one might well be the same mole. There is also a plant called the Castor Bean that seems to naturally repel moles. However, this is a large leaved plant and is quite poisonous. Not a good thing to have around if you have kids.

Try placing the little windmill sticks that you get at the seaside (you know the bright coloured ones) around the garden, the vibration from the wind is suppose to make the moles go elsewhere!!

Moles apparently are very sensitive to seismic disruption. There are mole scarers which you stick in to the ground which send thumps out, this (allegedly) scares off the as they think it is some larger predator coming to nibble their moley little flesh.

Can't vouch for their effectiveness as we tend to just wait for them to get bored and go dig up someone elses garden.

i agree that moles do get a bad rap. but, also agree that outdoor cat will take care of in no time. i had moles in my yard in virginia, and outdoor cats. saw a lot more dead moles than live. pretty amazing, though, i saw one that the cat left in tact and they have hands, not paws. opposable digits, fingernails, all.

however, if you have an INDOOR cat you may have what you need. bury used, soiled, cat litter in the area where you are having mole problems.
