i Have to write this essay ..coz am gonna study in the US for a year..and i really need a help so i can get chosen ...this is the subject :

it is natural for exchange students to feel home sick huring a year away from friends, family and school. reflect for a moment on what it will be like to live as a member of a family in the United States. What problems or challenges other than language might you execpt to encounter and how might you deal with them?

You should write about the positive things it will do for you to give yourself more chance of being selected. How about if you talk about the independence the time living away from home will give you, it will help you to make decisions for yourself, help you to develop your own opinions and yourself as a person. It will improve your confidence and people skills. You will become more experienced in dealing with different types of people, from different backgrounds, perhaps with different beliefs and values. Explain you will deal with any problems you encounter by talking to your exchange family.

Include the fact that you know it will be different to living at home, but that this is exciting to you and something you feel will develop you as a person.

Of course! I got over mine in a few weeks when I went to Japan.

I am from the US. I have found that most places are alike deep down. Even though they speak a different language in Japan, or Spain, or France (etc).. people are really more alike than you'd think.

"What problems or challenges other than language might you execpt to encounter and how might you deal with them?"
I don't know where you are from, but the cultures might be different. You might be worried about offending someone (don't worry.. it's hard to offend Americans) or getting lost. This sounds like a personal thing to me.
