I am packing for the hospital today. I know all the basics, but is there anything that helped you to be more comfortable before and after delivery?

My husband. He was there to comfort me and get me anything I needed if I forgot it!! But seriously, I did forget a sports bra since I didn't breastfeed. So if you're not going to breastfeed, I suggest you take a sports bra. ;)

Definately a robe. The hospital gown opens in the back and you'll want to get up and walk around. I was also glad I had my own pillow -so much more comfortable than the hospitals. Also, pack a list of people you want to call. If the delivery goes well, and you're not in much pain after, you might be in the mood to talk. I was also glad I brought a journal to record my thoughts right after the birth. The other thing I brought to the hospital with my last, was a picture book called, "On the Day You Were Born". I had every visitor write a message to my son inside the front cover. Best of luck to you!

I wish I had packed my own pads. The hospital pads were very bulky, and I had to wear a thick ice pad on top of it, so I was very uncomfortable. This time, I'll make sure I pack my own (those Always Clean overnite ultrathin pads with the wipes seem like a good one). Also, I wish I had taken my own pillow and blanket. When I had my son, my room was a bit on the cool side, and the pillows and blankets were thin and uncomfortable.

socks that aren't embarrassing, CauSE Your feet are gonna be in the air. Ignore the caps, infant is helping type. Good book, 'cause with first baby, you're gonna be there past time you wanna go home.

This isn't relevant to packing, but it is to your comfort: YOU ARE THE BOSS!

You are the one having the baby. If anything said or done around you gives trouble, make it known. I wish I had: asked the nurse who bitc*ed at me to be removed from the room. Refused an IV. Said "Stop discussing video games (to hubby and dr). This is about ME!." Asked to deliver in my own gown.

So my advice for your comfort: don't be shy- if you want it you tell 'em.

Luckily, I didn't forget to pack anything. My robe and slippers was what helped me to stay comfortable, especially since you have to wear those horrible hospital gowns. Oh, and don't forget to bring some socks!

Don't forget to pack lots of diapers (I nearly ran out) in case you decide not to use the hospital-provided diapers, and bring a good quality diaper rash cream with you. My son got a horrible diaper rash (nearly bleeding) while in the hospital.

A camera. We had baby #2 unexpectedly (went to the hospital to be monitored and had to have him at 36 weeks). We didn't have a camera with us. Hubby went to the gift shop and bought one for over $10. I would have rather bought him a stuffed animal or something instead but pictures are very important. Good luck and Congrats

I've heard very cosy warm socks from a lot of friends. And something to read, if you're there for a long time you might want a good book or magazine to zone out on for awhile.

Your own pajamas, your own undies that you dont mind getting ruined (they usually in most places will give you these little net underwear to use with a huge pad. I didnt like this and it wasnt comfortable.) Then also take your own big pads that will be more comfortable to you. This is my 4th baby and I will be taking all these things with me this time.
