Austin is the only city in Texas I would consider revisiting.

Lived here off and on for 25 years and on the main love the city. Recently the traffic has become a commuters nightmare, but you can see the city is trying to catchup to the swarms of people moving here with new road building. I was here back in 79 to 85, moved away, came back in early 2000 always thinking of Austin as a great place to raise kids and retire. Nice folks, plenty of places to live catering to your specific lifestyle and economics. That is changing rapidly, esp. east and downtown across the river neighborhoods north and south. Austin is seeing an increase in crime. There s still a naivete among long time Austinites concerning crime that they are quickly waking up to as the city gets inundated with big city crime populations that follows migrations. But Austin still has that small city friendliness and charm uniquely its own. Don t know how long it will last. As visiters and new comers find how much land and house you can buy comparatively to other medium cities, affordability will skyrocket, esp. as land and business developers are seeing Austin as a gold mine. I Live in the area near the new Apple complex and my home value has increased significantly. I also at one time lived near the Cupertino, Ca. Apple headquarters and I was priced out of the housing there. People moving to Austin now will benefit from its charm for a while, then I expect in the next 20 years Austin will become like any big city with all its negative points.. Right now people still say "Howdy", to strangers.
