If it has a place to attach a network cable, then it has a NIC. A NIC is the receptical for attaching an ethernet cable.

Attach a network cable between the laptop and the DSL modem. Then run the CD that should have come with the DSL modem. It should set up the NIC for you.

Turn off the modem and the laptop. If the modem wire fits in the receptacle you have a NIC. It is larger then the regular telephone jack. If it is a nic, plug it in from the dsl. Then turn on the modem. The computer is then turned on. It should recognize it right off. If not call your cable company or where ever you got the modem. It may not be active. If it is a stolen or pirated modem it will not work.
