Think of the ramifications: would we phase it in among the use of automobiles? Some flying, some driving...How could society ever adjust to something like this?

Well society adjusted pretty well when we went from the horse and buggy to cars. I'm sure with hovercrafts the adjustment process would take a bit longer, but...think about the billions in money the government would save on road construction and repairs...they could use that additional savings to do something really useful, like more corporate welfare or something! And we wouldn't care cause we'd have shiny new hovercrafts to fly around in. Imagine the possibilities. :-)

Hovercrafts could be somewhat confusing to regulate as they place self assurance in rudders to stear them ,enormously at speed.yet definite you're able to think of by applying now, interior the twenty first Century that we could a minimum of have some style of hover automobile / vehicle in production ,provided that to make this international greater interesting Transportwise!

Are you kidding? Some people can barely drive cars and they've had quiet some time to practice that, can you imagine grandma getting around in a hovercraft??? It'll be a while before we use that technology

Then traffic would just be a bigger mess than it already is, I suspect. I don't think it would ever become mainstream but you never know.....

Thinking about the Jetsons makes me smile though :)
