I've been working at Walmart part time for a few months now and during orientation we were forced to watch a video telling us how much walmart doesn't need unions and how they aren't "anti union but pro associate". Aren't unions a good thing? After all if a company can make billions of dollars a year can't they afford to pay their employees what they're worth? It's a hard job (especially since they won't hire the amount of employees needed) so why are the employees suffering because each store has a budget they have to meet? Why is this company so greedy?
Also I've seen very wasteful practices such as scraping scratch and dent items into the compactor like baby beds, gun safes, and food. Wouldn't these items better serve the community by giving them to charity instead of trashing them?
My third problem are the shopping carts. There's a policy where lifters are to be placed on all new shopping carts which lift all of the back wheels off the ground making them dangerous to collect.

I see that unions have their problems too but if wages are raised would Walmart really lose money? I've never understood the concept of "if we don't make as many billions as we wanted we consider it a loss".

Walmart employees work harder then you give them credit for. Whether you push carts for a living or work as an associate for a department you are working constantly for the small amount they pay you. It's hard back breaking and stressful work and anyone who has worked in retail will agree with that.

Unions force companies to pay more money for salaries which means the company has to raise the price of its product or lose money. Which do you think they will do? That's why American cars are so high. They have to pay union wages which means the company passes that cost to the consumer. If Walmart pays union wages the cost of everything goes up in the store and I for one don't want to pay more out of my pocket.
The compactor is standard for most large and medium retail chains. Its not just a Walmart thing. Plus, if they donated a damaged baby bed they'd end up having to defend themselves in a frivolous lawsuit brought by someone whose kid got injured in the bed.

My mother works in a car factory and is in a union. Unions help, but they can be a pain too. They try to get fair wages for the workers, but they are also after their own agendas and wages. They are supposed to help with internal worker issues but sometimes turn a blind eye to the union members problems. Sometimes the strike is more about union wants than member needs. Or the kid of a union leader gets a job when there were many people more qualified that had applied. After my Mom being in the UAW (united auto workers) for over 20 years, I'm glad she's closer to retiring. Its as corrupt as any group of people gathered together and they seem to hinder more than they help. She's having a hard time at work right now because the Union rep won't step up and stop this 1 guy from making her life hell. And she's having to save as much as she can because their contract renews next year and she's scared they'll strike long enough to royally screw up her paychecks. So they can be good, but my family is tired of unions.

A lot of people are against unions nowadays. I actually worked for walmart briefly and hated it to pieces. The reason for unions is basicly for people can get a fair pay and benefits. A lot of corporations try to provide these anyways so the employees won't unionize. Off course I don't believe walmart pays fairly. and there have been failed attempts to unionize walmart.Understand that any business will resist unoinizing becuase it will cost them more and therefore lessen there profits. That video is complete Nonsense theyare pro profit only and have these videos wich are blatant propoganda to discourage any desire to unionize.

Why do writers keeps focusing on Walmart instead of the Walmart family. Are they sadistic, pspychopathic.? Unions would not affect the lifestyle of the Walmarts at because their disposable incomee would be more than they could possibly need. Economic behavior is behavior and it can't be understood without being viewed as pathology. Psychology, preferably psychoanalytic theory needs to be applied. Punditry won't work.

yes unions are good but getting the people to vote on whether to have a union or not is tough.mark my word if they find out you or any one else is talking union they will fire you. They don't want a union too make them pay you what you are worth. I do think it would be funny to see walmart too be forced to pay a fare wage. six or seven dollars an hour is chump change in this day in age. But with out a bargaining factor in your best interest you will have to live with it. If you do try to get a union good luck in your Quest!

My question is how can they stop this from happening sometime like in simple terms restricting this manner of super form of human beings in at one time or remaining the doorways. this is this type of tragedy My preyers go out to the kinfolk. I wish i'd desire to arise with a salution. I stay in Oregon and the outlet retailers opened at anyplace from 9 pm different than midnighThanksgiving evening. this is in simple terms greed on the a factor of persons and the shops. perhaps Walmart will come to a determination to easily bypass with familiar hours Black Friday we've some that are open 24 hours I have no theory how which will artwork.

wal mart doesn't want to pay their employees what they are worth, thats part of how they make billions. Big business giving small amounts to charities is pretty difficult for the business to deal with, and i don't know what to tell you about the shopping carts

Unions would raise wages and improve working conditions. Walmart makes money hand over fist they are the largest company in the world. They made their fortune screwing everybody over. They even get to keep any taxes be it payroll or sales taxes. A union is a threat to that. the best thing that could happen to the USA or the world would be if they went out of business.
