It's like being back at school and getting wrong off your teacher. I can understand to a certain extent when it's a question full of spelling mistakes, but if you even get one word wrong they pounce like vultures to tell you. WHY!!!! Is it just me or is it just incredibly sad?. It must be great to be so perfect. No doubt there will be a bad grammar in this question, don't tell me I don't care.

I only point out the grammar mistakes if it completely changes the meaning of the sentence from what the writer intended.
For example, someone a while ago spoke about all the carp on the television. They meant c rap, but spelled it wrong, and turned it into a whole new question!

I am surprised if anyone complains about your standard of writing.
I think the problem is usually associated with people whose grammar is so consistently bad as to make you either unable to understand them or suspect they are not genuine.
With regard to spelling I think the same applies.

The only other point I would make is that in heated debates I am sure some people would seize on grammar or spelling as a cheap way of scoring points in the argument...a bit sad I agree, but very human.

Teachers TEACH, and pupils are there to be tought! You should feel grateful to your teachers for picking you up. It is the ONLY way you will learn to avoid errors. Bad grammar, and careless spelling, give a bad impression, and should not be allowed to go unremarked on. Try saying "thanks" when you are pulled up, and see how your teacher reacts. But most of all, note the error, and try not to repeat it. There is NO excuse for an English speaking person to speak English badly!

It's because to anybody who understands grammar knows that good grammar is the most accurate and expressive way to say what you want. People who use poor grammar are either too thick to learn, or too lazy to communicate accurately. Many of us do not really like people who are thick and lazy. In other words poor grammar shows that you are really not worth bothering with.

That should be "don't tell me, I don't care" with a COMMA!

Seriously though, you don't need to be a rocket scientist to at least write coherently. I don't expect every user to have a complete grasp of the nuances of the English language but it's just uncouth to write a string of unpunctuated, misspelled garbage with poor grammar.

Edit: scroll down to Tony BinEye. For someone so sure there's no excuse, he has a little trouble spelling "taught". :D

If I am going to answer a question and I can't understand what is being said then I find another one to answer. All that someone has to do is use their spell check for their spelling errors.
