I'm 3 months pregnant so keep that in mind. I'm working right now for a company that is a pretty good job, full-time, they have great medicial and dental, awesome time off (28 days paid time off just starting), pay is nice, good with maternity leave, and I'm getting a slight raise. The only thing is, I hate the job! The work is slow and the people are ok but no one that I'd really miss. I want to quit and go get this other job that would help get my foot in the door doing what I really want, a police officer. I really want the job but I'm wondering if it would be a waste of time to even interview for it. The new job would pay more but I'm not sure about the benefits package. I guess I could care less as long as they have medical and maternity leave. I know it's rude to ask that at a interview so how should I have brought up or find out if I go? Should I leave my job that I'm at now to go with this new job. It would make me so much happier but I have to think about my baby now.

I think you should stick it out at your current job. Soon enough you'll be able to take maternity leave. You need to adjust to having this new baby, and when you have, there is no reason why you can't pursue your dreams... you've got your whole live ahead of you... what's 6 more months at this job?

If you really want this other job why don't you at least go to the interview. I don't see anything wrong with asking about medical and maternity leave at the interview especially if your honest with them about your pregnancy. Chances are they won't hire you but maybe they will keep you in mind if they have another opening after your baby is born. In the mean time I wouldn't up and quit your current job unless the other place did hire you, because you don't want to lose your benefits while your pregnant. I understand wanting a job that you will enjoy over a job you hate. I worked lots of jobs I hated until I start working with racehorses. I've loved my job with the horses for the last 5 years. Now I'm trying to decide whether I can still work with the horses and still raise my baby or whether I should look at other job options. Good luck!!!

your best bet is staying where you are. I had to switch jobs when i was 3 months along and i ended up not getting any maternity leave out of it at the new job im at. Although i am much happier they only hired me because i would be temporary. Since your that far along you have to be honest with them in the interview and tell them your pregnant and how far along....cuz if you spring it on them after your hired..your probably going to cause some ruff waters and they wont think your honest (and if your looking at being a police officer...thats the most important thing you can have) No one wants to hire someone on thats going to leave in 6 months...i would stay where you are

It's always nice to leave a job you hate and start a new one. But keep in mind, FMLA is not active until you have worked at a company for 1 year, so if you leave for maternity, the company is not "required" to give you your job back when you are ready to return. Also, I am not sure how short term disibility works in that situation, you may not get any "paid" time off.

It's a tough decision, but if it were mine to make, I would stick it out until the baby is born and start looking while you are on maternity leave.

Staying home when you have the baby is a wonderful idea for both you and the baby...but how much time will you need to get the house ready? Especially if you're already home five days out of the week? When the baby comes, you'll have lots lots lots to keep you occupied, but until then more than likely you'll be bored bored bored. You might explain the situation to your boss and let her/him know you need more frequent and timely breaks since you're getting along in your pregnancy. If you're as close to your boss and co-workers as you say, it's doubtful they'll have any problem with the idea. Good luck whatever you decide!

One thing to keep in mind is (if you're in the US) the FMLA law does *not* cover a person who has been with their job less than one year. You could get this job, only to wind up losing it when you go out to have the baby. Be up front in your interview about being pregnant and your expectations. It's better to not get the job and still have your old one than to start a new one and end up with none.

Something you need to understand; no matter how good your benefits are at your job, you owe them nothing. You give them a lot more than they give you. Your efforts give them access to more money in a day than you will see in a year. If you hate the job, don't let the benefits stop you from getting this other. if it would pay more, that's definitely a start; I would ask around, and then if the benefits are good for you, go for it. Also, it would be better for your baby because you wouldn't bring the stress of a job that you hated home with you. That's how some abuse starts, and you definitely don't want to do that.

yes you have to think of your baby now. give your job you have now another six months. if after you have maternity leave you still feel like leaving then do so. until then you really should wait. like you said you don't know about the medical at the other job nor do you know about the materity leave or anything like that. so if i were you i would just wait it out until i gave birth and make my move then. good luck

Listen to all the advise that people are giving you! Stay where you are. You MIGHT find another job, but it's doubtful. No one wants to hire a woman who's 3 months pregnant. Also, even if they do carry insurance, you won't be covered because it's a pre-existing condition. Are you able to afford the cost of your medical bills?

You have like 4-5 months until you go on leave... its really not a good time to be switch careers.

Do you have police training? You cant even start the physically demanding training process right now anyway, not after your first trimester.

Chill out and wait for baby. It wont be forever.
