If you have signed paper work that you agreed to buy the car "as is", then legally you will not get anything. You could sue them, but your case does not hold any water and you won't win.
If the documents you have signed does not state "as is", I encourage you to contact a lawyer to see what rights you have.

in some states there is a 3 day lemon law stating that even if you buy a car as is if something goes wrong by no fault of your own you can get your money back.
google lemon law for your state and take it from there
good luck i have had the same exoerience and it sucks

Nope as long as they said "as is" there is bascicly nothing you can do. Most "backyard dealrs dont run credit checks, but can report to the credit agencies if you dont pay, but from prior experience they never report.you could try to find someone to fix the car for cheep, or you could sell it to a scrap yard and get a littler money back. most of the time thell even come and pick it up for you.

Yes you can. There are lemon laws in most states and I saw a man win a case against a dealer in Superior court and have a judgment go against the dealer!

yeah, you can sue pretty much anyone. whether you'll win is another story.
it depends on what was said about the car, if it had any kind of warranty, (i'm guessing not) or anything like that. did they *tell* you it was a good car? if so they at least lied to you.

No. "As is" means you took it with all faults.
Next time have a mechanic you trust look at it before you buy.
caveat emptor
Lemon Laws are for new cars.
