In my case it is because my wife totally changed after the wedding. We used to have fun and party, and now she wants to settle down and have a family. I'm too young for that! I want my good-time girl back!
EDIT: Only 3 thumbs down so far...I love how everyone just bashes the guy..obviously must have been his fault. Women will never admit it could be their fault, too!!! Maybe she's a selfish witch and he's sick of giving and getting nothing in return!

Maybe he's unhappy. Maybe marriage is more work than he thought it would be. Maybe he didn't want to get married in the first place.
My hubby's best friend's wife left him after 8 months. She just couldn't handle the work that went along with marriage. Sorry to hear what you're going through.

He might feel confined, or overwhelmed with the responsibilities of marriage. He might realize that he doesn't love his wife. He might have married the woman out of lust, instead of love, and has become bored with the sex. He just might not want to be married. In short, he's unhappy.

You guys must have walked into this marriage on different pages of a book, obviously not the same page.
Being UNHAPPY can constitute a lot of things...new way of life adjustment, finances, stress etc...We've no real way of telling unless it comes out from him.
The key to resolution is communication and if he is giving you none, then you should start looking hard at your own life and figure out what YOU want and what YOU deserve, with or without him.

He is a boy not a man cause a real man does not walk out on a real marriage, he stays and works on problems and talks and is open and honest.

He might have been in love with the idea of being in love, but once reality sets in, like it does after six months or more, he decided to call it quits because there was no real communication or intimacy or, worse yet, he was just to selfish and lazy to work through the problems that occur at 6+ months in a real relationship.

You didn't know each other well enough when you got married. Or, he didn't realize what a commitment marriage really is. Either way, if he would walk out on you like that, it's his loss. Eight months is NOT long enough to make a snap judgment.
Good Luck.

Could be anything, really, He is the only one that can truly specify, unless he is confused himself. Get a divorce and move on, better after 8 months versus 8 years.

He said he was unhappy, so you need to ask him what is making him unhappy. 8 months is a short time to be married and then unhappy and for him to leave after such a short time, he must be miserable.

He may not have been as ready for marriage as he thought - or he may not have wanted to get married to begin with. Only HE knows why. I'm sorry to year about the marital problems. Hope everything works out.
