Because he squirms & gets physical - he's being held on a Papoose Board.

A papoose board is shaped like a paramedic's backboard.Your child will be placed on the board then his torso ,arms and legs will be wrapped in a soft cloth which is covered in Velcro ,when the cloth is pressed together the Velcro will firmly hold your child so he can not move during the procedure, thus preventing injury to himself or the caregivers. His forehead will also be held in place using Velcro.Papoose boards are commonly used in Emergency Rooms and Pediatric units to secure children during procedures. This prevents your chid from being restrained in possily more injurious ways, such as by people or leather strap restraints with metal buckles. The papoose board has been used safely for many years and would be in the best interest of your child. You can always request that the caregivers show you the papoose board and talk you through the procedure beforehand. Also go to www.fotosearch.com/LIF145 and go to page 11 to see picture of one and how it is used.

a papoose board is a board that the child will be restrained on for a medical exam or procedure. the child is swaddled or wrapped in blankets so they cannot move. then they are put on this board so they don't move and the dental work can be done. it is called a papoose board because it looks like the ones the indians used to carry their infants. it really is not as bad as it sounds. it won't hurt your son but he will be upset about not being able to move. this is a way to restraine a child instead of sedating them. hope it goes well. good luck.

It is something that is commonly used when people have neck injuries. It immobilizes their heads so the head and neck can not move. It does not cause any injuries and it will not hurt him. I see them used on a daily basis with all differing types of people and they are always fine when they are removed from the board. Have medications been tried before the restraint?

It will not hurt him. How old is your son and what kind of treatment is he having done? I know they use them in Dr's offices and hospitals. I have never heard of a dentists using them. My worry is the mental scars it may leave on the child. Not sure I would allow them to do it to my child.
