It would be localized to one side of your stomach. Generally the embryo isnt big enough to irritate the tube until about 10 weeks from your LMP. It would feel like an extreme pain that doesnt stop.
I went back and read your original question. Did they do a transvaginal ultrasound? At 5 weeks gestation, clear up to 8-10 weeks it can be impossible to see the embryo in the uterus without a transvaginal.
Even with a vaginal ultrasound, that early on, especially if you've had more than one child, it can be difficult to locate the embryo, which is smaller than a grain of rice.
It doesnt rule out a tubal pregnancy, but it doesnt mean thats the only option. They would have checked the ovaries and fallopian tubes during the first ultrasound, and its easier to find the embryo in that area than it is the compared vastness of the uterus.
Hard as it is, try to chill out until Thursday, when they can tell you something more. Otherwise you'll make yourself sick with worry.

im very sorry for your loss but i know exactly how you feel! i had an ectopic pregnancy in jan 08 i am a private patient but because my ectopic ruptured i was rushed into hospital. i was 3 months pregnant when it happened. my doctor told me i could try again as soon as i felt upto it. so, after my first period my husband and i started trying again. it has now been almost 7 months and unfortunatly im still not pregnant. Early June my doc sent me to a gyno for further testing. 5 weeks ago i had a laparoscopy to check how my remaining tube and all other insides are, but i will be going for my check up appointment in a few days. my period is currently 2 days late which is hopefully a really good sign. my gyno did say that i will go on to have a NORMAL pregnancy and i only have 1 tube- you are lucky as you still have both. my gyno also discussed with me IVF, which i am more than happy to undergo if i can not fall pregnant naturally (just knowing that is avalible gives me hope). When i was pregnant i was taking Blackmores Pregnancy & Breastfeeding vitamins, the gyno did tell me to continue taking them. i know emotionaly it is hard but stay positive and keep your fingers crossed and we should both be holding our little miracle babies soon!!

Maybe this will help. I didn't have an ectopic pregnancy but I was at risk due to endometriosis. My ob told me to report any pain that feels like gas only much more intense. I did have gas pains which were abnormally intense but they turned out to be -well, just gas (or maybe anxiety).

I don't know if it would be painful or not, but it could be very dangerous. If you think you may have an ectopic pregnancy you should go to the doctor or to the emergency room ASAP.

I was going to give you the whole story of my tubal pregnancy, but I decided I would just tell you the symptoms my dr told me to look for and what happened in the end...
After several blood tests with hormones rising but irregularly and a couple 'empty' ultrasounds, dr told me that if I got a bad stomach ache/cramps that weren't relieved after a bowel movement to give him a call. That exact thing happened...I started getting a bad stomach ache, went potty but it didn't go away at all...there was no relief. So we called the dr and he met me at the ER. By time I got to the ER, I had started bleeding was taking directly to surgery where they removed the 'cells' (because it's not really a fetus) and saved my tube. Oh, I'm not sure how far along I was...I'm thinking 6-7 weeks.

Eptopic pregnancys do cause severe pain and can be dangerous to the mother if the fallopian tube ruptures. My advise to you is that if it's just cramping even on one side, you are more than likely okay because your uterus is going through so many changes.
However, if the pain is severe, you should go to the ER right away. They ususally are detected around the 7th week of pregnancy.
Good luck!!!

An ecotopic pregnant may or may not be painful. If you suspect you have one, the best idea is to go and get checked out. Sometimes women who have an ectopic are unaware until the tube ruptures and they are in need of emergency surgery.
It is better to be safe, then sorry.

This is a question for a doctor! Do you have a positive pregnancy test?? If so you should check in with a doc either way to start prenatal care.
