The question basically comes down to "Do you believe in the death penalty?" Those would kill Saddam would say the following: For all of the "good" Saddam may have done, he has the blood of thousands on his hands. You could make a convincing argument that his crime is much worse than a thief, bandit, etc. If anyone deserves the death penalty, it's Saddam, Hitler, etc.. Those against killing Saddam would say the following: If you kill Saddam, you are morally lowering yourself to his standards. You are justifying killing by killing. There is not necessarily a right or wrong answer. It merely depends on your own personal philosophies. However, something had to be done with him, and I for one am not going to lose a lot of sleep over his execution. Where we go from here is much more important.

He was a horrible person, but I personally don't like the death sentence in general. If death penalty wasn't necessary to keep prisons from overflowing, I think it would be a worse punishment for someone to spend life in prison. They should have just put Saddam in a prison full of people that hated him and let him be harrassed and assaulted for the rest of his life.

I have no doubt that his life was justly ended. He was a murderous tyrant who caused untold suffering. That being said, I have no desire to see his demise though.
