Leak would have had a good chance to come away with the trophy but Jamarcus Russell would have entered the picture as well. I know Smith and Quinn would not have gotten it.
I have always felt that the Heisman should be awarded after the championship game. There is such emphasis made on how you perform in the big games. Duh, the championship game usually has one or two candidates vying for the trophy. So, it is ridiculous to hand out the trophy before the season is over.
Also, ever since Manning was overlooked for the trophy, it has very little to do with character and all about how you play the game as long as you are not convicted of a felony you're eligible.

The Heisman is way overrated. It's all politics. ESPN determines the winner before the season. Who cares who wins it. Troy Smith proved he put up numbers in a weak conference. If the Heisman really went to the best player of the year Colt Brennan of Hawaii should have won.http://www.boston.com/sports/colleges/football/articles/2006/12/25/brennan_lifts_hawaii/

One good game does not make a Heisman Trophy winner and one bad game doesn't negate a solid season. I hate OSU as much as the next person, but I'd still take Troy Smith over Chris Leak any day, and I can pretty much gaurantee you that Smith will get drafted higher, if Leak gets drafted at all.

No you are not right, Leak played extremely well in the national championship game, but Heisman takes a whole season, he had 13 ints, doesnt getto play inside the redzone becuase of tebow, only passed for 2,900 yards nearly half of some QB's, hes not the biggest impact in college football, Also, it doesnt have to be a QB, plenty of running backs that outperformed Leak this year. Had a great game though.

no. unfortunately you are not right. leak had a great year, but not the best. troy smith had a better year than leak, so did brady quinn, and mcfadden and rice (the running back from rutgers). but leak was in more big games and won the championship, unfortunately for him, his stats weren't as good as the other guys to be considered. they usually see the heisman awarded to a guy with better stats, not who is necessarily more valuable to their team.

1 game doesn't make a season, the Heisman goes to the best player through-out the whole season
