I'm going to try to make this as short as possible. My name is Tiffany and I'm 27 years old. I'm married and have a little boy that's 2yrs. old. After I had the baby I was put on B/C pills (Ortho Tri-cyclin) June 5th 2006 I had a mini stroke. After all the tests were run the doctor came to the conclusion that it was the pills. So I was taken off of them and told never to use birth contol pills again or anything with estrogene. I haven't had a period since July 18th. I have been told that even if you don't have a period you can still get pregnant. I'm just wondering if that is true. A couple weeks ago I had some light spotting for about a day. Just enough to wear a panty liner. For the past week I have been feeling a little nauseous and a about 3 days ago I noticed that my bb's seems a little fuller and my nips are sore. I was just wondering if it sounds like I could be pregnant, or it that some sign that I could be ovulating. I didn't know if it was too early to take a test but I did last night. It was neg. but my nips are more sore than yesterday. It only feels better if I wear a bra so they won't rub against my shirt. Please...Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Tiffany

It is possible that you are pregnant, yes.

As you know, after being on hormonal birth control your cycles can be utterly out of wack, and this can go on for some time. It is possible that you did not ovulate for several months and then, the first time you did ovulate, you got pregnant. In that scenario, if pregnancy didn't occur, you would have (finally) gotten a period. You could have had some spotting around the time of ovulation, or you could have had "implantation bleeding" (something that most women do not have, incidentally). Were it not for the negative test, I would suggest it was also possible that conception occurred a couple of weeks before the bleeding, as it is not that unusual for women to experience some light bleeding, when pregnant, at about the same time they would normally have had a period.

One piece of information you left out: do you know when you had sex in relation to that bleeding?

The symptoms you're experiencing could be early signs of pregnancy. Or, as I'm sure you know, they could be signs that your body is back on track and that you're going to bleed soon. That the feelings are not what you usually experience pre-bleeding (if that's the case) doesn't matter, because you've been on the pill for a while, and your body is finding its own rhythm again...I wouldn't expect things to be "the same."

If I were you I would wait for a few days and, if no bleeding begins, take another test. If you neither start to bleed nor come up with a positive test within the next week or two, call your doctor and go in for a visit (especially if these "symtpoms" persist).

Good luck to you -- I hope you get the results you want.

Well, it does sound hopeful!! You can't get pregnant without having periods as a rule because if you're not having periods, that means you're not ovulating...however, you have to ovulate before you have a period, so if you are pregnant, you obviously ovulated and were going to be due a period but possibly became pregnant instead...It could really go either way with this hon! I'd give it a few more days and take another test if you haven't come on...if you still get a negative, it is possible that it is just because things are working again so you've gotten a boost of hormones (which will obviously cause painful breasts/nipples, etc)...anyways, it wouldn't hurt to see your doctor/gyno about this as they would be able to tell if you're pregnant via blood test: HPTs don't always work for everyone as I've discovered! So you could be pregnant but getting false negatives.

Best of luck, chick!

You really need to talk to your doctor about this, but here's what I know. If you aren't having your period then it is probably because you are not ovulating. If you don't ovulate you won't get pregnant. However, if you haven't been having a period and then you ovulate you could become pregnant before you get your period. This sometimes happens to women who are nursing. They think they can't get pregnant because they aren't having periods, but the first time the ovulate they get get pregnant before they ever have their period. Your symptoms do sound like pregnancy. It would probably be a good idea to schedule an appointment with your doctor. Good luck.
