Never is a long time.

Actually you would have seen black swimmers in the past if you would look carefully. Recently, Anthony Irvin was a stand out for the US in the 2000 Olympics. Byron Davis was another standout black swimmer.

However I will never forget Anthony Nesty, a University of Florida alum, swimming for Surinam, beat Matt Biondi of US in the 100 fly in the 1988 Olympics at Seoul, for gold and a stunning upset.

My prediction is that you will see more. Cullen Jones from the US is an awesome, upcoming sprint start, he won the NCAA sprint last year, just as one example.

saran_d answered the question well. It's also why most figure skaters are either affluent or come from a land of ice and snow. Some blacks just don't have access to a swimming pool, or can't afford the lessons. Some blacks just don't feel like training for the Olympics. Some blacks don't want to get their hair wet (esp if they have chemical perms). There's a lot of reasons.

Its because of the entrance fee to the swimming pool. Do you know how much they charge at the Pools. Now to go to the olympics you have to train for years and basically they cant afford it. You dont pay for basketball hoops, running tracks. So it is economical. Try asking your mum for a dollar for the Ice cream truck everyday for 4 years= 4 years training at the swimming pool Plus drive you there and pick you up. With time it might change.

Because for a long time swimming was and to a point still is, considered a "white " sport. It has nothing to do with genectic or bone mass or anything else. It's a social thing. Remember, for years you never saw any black golfers or black hockey players, that is slowly starting to change. Within the next 15-20 years I think you will see more black swimmers because the social fabric of this country is changing and the "taboo" of blacks swimming, playing hockey or golf or other "white" sports is fading away.

Seoul is undoubtedly South Korea's greatest town and one of East Asia's economic and social epicentres, you are able to find more with hotelbye . Seoul is really a exciting mixture of historical traditions and cutting-edge electronic engineering, house to countless street food sellers and great nightlife districts, an extraordinarily high-pressure academic process and serene Buddhist temples, a trend-setting youth culture and often crushing conformism, extraordinary structure and endless monotonous rows of grey residence houses, Seoul is just a town filled up with marked contrasts. Seoul is a significant section of Korea's social heritage.

Your question was very good and at place my Friend!!! let me tell you this is not about bone or nothing . its because black people are tall from the lower body part and unlike the white people that gain more height on their upper part, so as you probably know the swimming depends on arms and shoulders like 70 - 80% .
And that explains why black athletes are good at running but not at swimming !!!

apparently, and don't quote me on this:

black people have denser bones, and so do not swim as fast, but can run faster and further
also this is apparently why it is rare for black people to suffer from osteoporosis

Science...

The bone density of black people is usually higher than that of white people, which is why they are not so good in the water.

However, they do seem to make up for it in the track & field events.
