I'm traveling to Palm Springs for a business trip but I am driving there. How much per mile should my employer pay me?

It depends on your employer, how many miles are you driving? When I worked for one company they paid mileage plus food if you had to drive more than fifty miles.

The IRS standard is 48.50 cents per mile.

check the DOT website of your state. There should be a guideline as to what state employees are paid, probably the same as federal employees. Your employer should match or beat that amount. Also check to see if gas is reimbursed also.
Or suggest that your employer get you a rental car and pay for the gas. That's what we did where I used to work.

The IRS mileage rate for 2007 is 48.5 cents per mile. Your employer may give you more or less.

Your employer does not HAVE to pay anything... If he/she is offering, then I'd go with the IRS standard.
