Oh for Heaven's sakes, children, cobwebs, are spider's webs that are abandoned and dust covered. They're not only found in mythological places but in very real places such as old buildings, barns and the rafters in old houses. Cobwebs have been used by healers (both then and now) to help a wound heal as the collegen in the web strands help the wound edges pull together so that it heals faster. To be blunt...cobwebs start when they first are extruded out of a spider's spinerets. I hope that's answered your questions.

At the dawn of being, a dark purple light shone. It was the beginning. The Spider Woman (also known as the Thought Woman, or the Creator) spun a line, forming the east, the west, the north, and the south.
Into the expanding space sprang the earth, and the void retreated from it as the tide, exposing clay.
Spider Woman used clay of many colors to create people: red, yellow, white, and black. Her care and craft shone in each detail. To each of her created beings she attached a thread of her great web, drawn from her own body. The thread connects all things in all ways; to see it is to know wisdom, and perceive creation.
As the light grew yellow, breath entered man.
As the light grew red, the first men and women stood proudly before their creator. Their hearts promised never to forget the web that binds us all, and the oneness of all things.
But they did forget. Often.
Spider Woman sent a great flood. And in time, she sent it again. Three times, she sent a great flood to destroy those who had forgotten the thread. The tears of her sorrow mixed with those of her anger and washed the world.
Each time, those who remembered her gift floated to the new world, climbing to safety through the Sipapu Pole, the womb of the Earth.
Spider Woman had two daughters, Ut Set and Nau Ut Set.
Ut Set took the Pueblo people as her children, becoming as their mother. Seeing darkness, she formed the sun to give light, warmth, to improve life. Not to be outdone, her sister Nau Ut Set took all other people as her children. She formed the moon, and hung it in the sky. She saw the cycle of all things, and made the moon the face of change. She created prayer sticks, and taught prayer.
Even with the sun and moon, it was still dark. Spider Woman herself fashioned the stars, the Star People, and gave them clear crystal eyes that twinkle in the darkness.
Spider Woman found her creations forgetful of the thread. Spider Woman weeps from time to time, bringing storm and flood. In between storms, every particle of thread or earth gathers together, drawn by their connection to the source. In the dark corners where the waters seldom flow, the cobwebs grow, mirroring the greater creation in miniature, reminding those who care to see of the Spider Woman and her web, and of the interconnectedness of all things.
