No, Irreverend, 1986 was not a leap year. 1984 and 1988 were.

Did you see "The Pirates of Penzance"? A young man is indentured to a pirate ship until his 21st birthday. When he turned 21, he thought his servitude was over, but the captain informed him that he had to serve until his 21st birthday. Since he was born on Feb. 21 of a leap year, he would not have 21 birthdays until he turned 84!

1986 wasn't a leap year. 1984 and 1988 were.

If someone was born on 29 Feb 1988 he/she would be
18 years 10 months and 9 days old on 09 Jan 2007.

Leap babies celebrate their birthdays on Mar. 1 on regular years, and Feb 29 on leap years.
