We're afraid of death because 1) our strongest biological drive is the survival drive, so we're going to want to do anything we can to avoid death, and 2) our minds have a problem trying to imagine "the end", so when you combine this with #1, we're going to worry about "what happens afterwards?", going so far as to make up myths about it just to give us SOME kind of answer for the sake of self-satisfaction.
As for why we don't like to talk about it, that's something that does vary a bit from different generations and different cultures. Death was much more openly talked about here in the US in the 19th century, back when everybody still normally held wakes in their own house, whereas a topic like sex was taboo. Now it's the other way around.
What would I do if I knew I was going to die tomorrow? Call the people I love. Write a will. Delete things from my hard drive. Send out my passwords and stuff to a trusted individual. And of course spend half of the day with full-fledged hedonism.

I think death has been feared because the question of the after math lingers. I think because of this fear, we've projected images such as the grim reaper and associate it with negativity. I've had to stop and change my perception of death so I no longer fear it or feel bonded by it because of the grief it may cause to my family. I don’t know what I would do if I knew I would die tomorrow and I imagine I would think about my family and friends. I doubt I'd give much thought to those who would rejoice in my death.

We are scared of everything we don't know. If you walk into a dark room or if someone turns off the lights and you are in the dark you are scared at first because you can't see. As humans we want to be in control of our lives and know everything that happens. Death is not something we can control and we fear losing control. If I knew I was going to die tomorrow I wouldn't really change my life, I would probably invite more people to go to Church and witness a little more but that would be it.

I dont think believing that "one day we will all die therefore death is not so bad" is an issue. We all go on death ALONE. That is why it is so scary. We can't take anyone with us, we will never see anyone again, friend or foe.
We can't even imagine what it is to *not* exist, as while we are thinking about not existing, we are still breathing.
It is scary to think that when you die, you will be death forever and will never come back.

I, for one, am not afraid of death. I know that when I die, I will be rid of my earthly body, and my soul will be given a new glorious form in heaven. I will bask in the presence of God, and sing His praises for all eternity. Yes, indeed; I have no fear of death. I will admit I don't like to think about the pain that often comes with dying, but I know what awaits me on the other side of the grave. Praise the Lord!

IF one is a true Christian, they do not fear death. BEcause we know our life doesnt just end here with nothing. that we go on to heaven with Jesus and live a life there freeof pain and suffering, and its forever. life with Jesus forever. We will not remember those we love that didnt go to HEaven. God tells us those memories will be wiped away. He says in Heaven there will be no sorrow or pain, no more tears. Only a life of love and incredible peace and joy.
When someone doesnt Have that as a belief, when they dont KNow God. they tend to fear death, cuz they believe this is all there is and hae all the wondering questions like you asked above. As for the ppl we leave behind, we know that we leave them in the Hands of God, and He will do what He can for them BUt God forces noone to believe in Him. and we cant just believe there is a God. even the devil does that. We must love Him and love Him enough to obey Him, and KNOW that Heaven awaits us, and then there is no more fear of death.

We know what it feels like to be alive. What does it feel like to be dead? Since death is an unknown and an unknowable until the second it happens, we don't know what to be ready for. We know only that it is very, very final, and there is nothing that prepares us for that kind of finality. The greatest fear stems from whether death erases any meaning and significance our lives may have had to ourselves, others and the world. We want to know that our being alive meant something.

I don't fear death, just a slight dread that it could be a long drawn out process.
If I knew it was going to be tomorrow I would spend my final hours with my wife and kids with no outside distractions. Having fun, not just sitting around being sad.

People are usually scared of the unknown, including myself. Because no one can tell us for sure what happens when we die, the only ones who know are dead! We will never know, and that is what is scary. I try to live everyday like its my last, because you never know, I lost my dad recently and it has givin me a whole new perspective to life. Cherish every moment you have! I hope my family would miss me, and I hope that I didn't make any enemies in my life that would be happy to see me gone.
