I got married last friday to my boyfriend who is in the army. He just left on sunday to germany he is still in reception over there but I think he will be going to baumholder army base, does anyone know how long approximatley it will take for me to get into his orders so i can be with him. Also he is in infantry, i am sure thats not a good thing because of his probability of being deployed. but if he would not be deployed how long would it take?

My husband was on orders for Germany and left in March. I followed 1 month later in April. It didn't take too long. As long as he puts himself on the housing list AS SOON as he gets there. Make sure he checks in on them weekly.

Baumholder is not that big. But the base is close to other bigger bases. It is attached to Wiesbaden. That is where we were.

To be completely honest with you, he will most likely be deployed. Majority of soldiers in Germany are deployed. I would check and see if Baumholder has been deployed recently. I know some of the 1AD soldiers just returned and some are still over in Iraq. I hope for your sake, he isn't.

Word of advice. Travel. Travel as much as you can. We have seen most of Europe and the UK. Check out the miltary resort in Garmisch Gemany. It's called Edelweiss. The prices are determined by rank. Very inexpensive either way.

Good luck.

I'm married to a army man myself so I know what your going though. The wait for Germany isn't that long from what I understand. we have never been there but have heard good thing about the bases there. What I would tell you is call your FRG leader She will be able to help you allot(if you have a good one) I understand that you haven't been married long be trust me the longer your in the more you wait. My husband is doing he's second tour in Iraq so I understand waiting . If you ever want to talk you can im me. Please don't lesson to anyone that says bad things about the army. Or the military they just don't understand what we give up so that are husbands can try and serve and protect the same people that are saying bad things. just keep your head up and contact you Family Readiness Leader.

you can move up here pretty well after he gets up here. If you arent offered housing right off you can live in the bases hotel until you are offered housing or you can look for apts off base. Your husband doesnt have to have a certain rank before you can move up here. It could possibly take a lil longer to get housing..thats the only set back. but that also depends on the base and whats available. when my husband came back active i waited around til we got housing before we moved up here with him which we only had to wait a month or so. It was more simple to drive up here and go straight to the house vrs living in the Inn for however long. Good Luck in starting this new era of your life. It can be fun but also a bit stressful learning a new place..new people but nothing you cant handle.

I recently dealt with the same thing with my husband. I got stationed in Germany and since we had recently married he was not on my orders. I started the paperwork the day I got there and it took about 5 weeks for everything to be signed. But if you have the money to pay for tickets and a passport you can join him now. My husband came over on his passport, that way he was there to help me look for houses and set up our house. Yes, we still had to wait to get the additional money and benefits that we were entitled to. It was worth spending the money out of our pocket to have him there with me during that transitional time!

As long as you guys did the paperwork and you're enrolled in DEERS, you should be set to go! =) However, if he hasn't done the paperwork, you could be in for a LONG wait. You're a wife now, nag him to do it! =)

He should've been able to give you an idea about that before he left. With the military, one never knows.
