My second child went home when he was around 24 hours old. We didn't have a handy tunnel straight from the hospital to our garage, so this means he "went out" when he was 24 hours old. We waited until he was 4 days old, though, to take him to the mall for his birth certificate picture. I actually photographed a baby at a studio in the mall who was 28 hours old.
The hospital stay is more for the mom than the baby.
Make sure, when you do take your baby out, you dress him appropriately (layers is great, if you're in cold weather), and he's safely in a carseat appropriate for newborns, in the backseat, facing the back.

The day you get out of the hospital, as long as the baby is dressed right. But considering you just had a child most people stay at home the first week to feel better. The day I left the hospital: with my first child we went to the store as soon as we left the hospital, with my second child we left the hopital at night so we went home, and with my third child we went to a 1 year's old birthday party. So it really depends on you, the weather, and if you have prior commitments.

Its fine to take a baby outside. Just make sure the baby is warm if its winter with hats and blankets. Obviously if its a blizzard then i would say keep the baby inside. I take my baby out all the time. Fresh air id good for them!

You can take your baby outside anytime. Just be sure your baby is dressed for the weather and if it is windy, have your baby covered because they can't breath in the wind very well. I wouldn't have the baby around too many people, like in the mall, until your baby has had their first vaccinations though, just to be safe. The fresh air is good for them, and for you too!

Although you can take babies outside at any age (afterall, they were already "outside" when you brought them from the hospital to home), definitely make sure that they're properly dressed. It is best to avoid public places (or at least physical contact with strangers) until they've had their first shots because they'll be more succeptable to germs.
I think that my baby was around a week old when I took him on his first trip to the grocery store. Fortunately you don't have to worry about them touching anything because they're all bundled up in the infant carriers - but you have to make sure that strangers aren't sticking their faces in theirs or grabbing at their hands which is hard to avoid since everyone seems to want to get their hands on a cuddly little newborn!
Congratulations on your new little one! :)

My doctor said 4 weeks is a good age to start taking her out in public. She will have enough resistance to germs and bugs out there at this point.
Taking her for little walks outside is o.k. before then, though. Just not where there are a lot of people.

I took my daughter out the next day after we came home it was also summer and she was healthy. I know where I live right now there is a lot of cold and flu's going around so i would wait a couple of weeks but if you want you can take your baby out right away.

I started taking my son for short walks the first week he was home from the hospital. It was great for me to get outside, and the fresh air did him good as well. Just be sure to dress your baby appropriately for the weather, and make sure the baby won't be around anyone who is sick.
Congratulations!

weather permitting, you can take your baby out whenever you are ready to, just make sure that the baby is bundled up well. but as for my own personal preference, i didn't take my baby out unless it was absolutely necessary until after the first month, because it was during the winter, and i didn't want to risk having her pick up a cold from somebody.
