People say it is the choice to cut out your desires and expectations and accept everything that happens with equanimity...... easier said than done.... what would life be without desires and expectations.... would it be even worth it?

Happiness is not as simple as a mere choice..... it is the most sublime goal to be achieved and incredibly few people can really achieve it in their lifetime.

What we can of course do is to try and reduce unhappiness... identify small small things and situations which disturb our mind and consciously avoid or eliminate them one by one.

Soon we would find that at the root of all disturbance to our mind is our own self pride and selfishness...... in order to improve on this aspect, we need to remind ourselves every now and then as to how really 'small' we are in this vast and varied universe and how momentary we are in this enormous span of time that just goes on and on. This thought will help us rein in our ego and reduce unhappiness....

Well, if you are really not happy, and you are pretending to be happy, you are still not happy. On the other hand, sometimes pretending to be happy gives you a chance to realize all the things you really have to be happy about. Which ends up making you happy in the end, and you no longer have to pretend. Therefore, one could conclude that happiness is an emotion that is also a state of being. Some people (including myself) believe that happiness can also be tied to thankfulness. But others may disagree and say that it can never be truly acheived.Otherwise, I guess it all depends on your personality and point of view.

simply, happiness and contentment r 2 sides of the same coin. Its important that when u come across some situations in life that disturb u or make u unhappy, thats when u find it inevitable to giv in to ur emotions and lose control over ur emotional self, so you become sad. But it takes a strong willed person to not give into these emotions, pluck your courage and look at the positive side of whats happenning, welcome the future and take charge. Mostly our happiness is centered around our family and other loved ones, their fallings and failures also contribute to our unhappiness and that makes it difficult all the more. hey, happiness is also not easy coz it comes with some suffereing, u dont know the value of light until u see darkness. but am i getting too philosophic?

You could choose to be happy and disregard anything that does not align itself with that idea. This is off balance, and I am not sure it would do anyone outside yourself any good at all. This is the path most people choose. There is another choice. You can choose to adapt and be content in whatever state you find yourself in. This would mean that you are accepting life on life's terms and it would benefit everybody including yourself.

It's odd that no one ever uses the phrase, "to do happy". It's always "to be happy", as if happiness was a perpetual state of mind instead of an action to do or not do. I don't think you can force a forever state of happiness, because you continue to live and move in time. Continuously renew "doing happy" moment after moment, and you will be satisfied, not merely happy. Doing things that please you and that bring you satisfaction is a much better bet, because you are making your happiness with your own hands.

Pretty happy. You are the only person that controls how happy you are with your career. A paper boy can make the most out of his job but at the same time he can choose to view his job as the worst job in the world.
