Actually the crazy colors on the simpsons were chosen so that it would catch peoples' attentions as they surfed through the channels. Im sure Marge's hair is no exception. in the early years they tried it out on other things like trees, making them purple and such. But they've decided to keep it simple and make things what color they are(except of course for the recognizable color for the characters).
