Hi. I have two steps under the age of 10 & according to the divorce degree my husband has to cover all costs of travel to see them. Due to where we live it would be easier & less expensive to cut through Canada via driving than to go across five states. (air travel is expensive due to the car rentals.) But Birth mom is saying we will kidnap them & refuses to sign the pass port papers. (we will pay for the paperwork & photos). Any ideas on how to convince her otherwise? This needs to be resolved soon due to the strong probablilty of an overseas transfer this year.

We have never said that we want the kids full time. Nor have we been really late (one month or so due to deployment issues) with child support. No have we balked when ever she has played fast & loose with the custody terms for her own benifit.
So where this is coming from, I have no idea.

I don't know that there is anything you could do or say to convice her. If this is what she has in her head, good reason or not, you probably won't be able to talk her into it. You can try to explain your reasoning behind it (financial, convenience, transfer etc.) but it probably won't work. The only other things I would suggest would be consulting a lawyer or doing your visitation where she lives. Is there anyone nearby you could stay with or cheap hotel rooms? Sorry this is happening, it sounds like she's being unreasonable just because she can. Hope it works out for you.
