Work out the number of "man-days" for the task = 7*15 = 105 man days

Now assuming there are no critical tasks that require one clerk to wait on another and the job can be split up linearly.

Given 3 clerks, combined they have to provide 105 man days for a new shipment, which is 35 days each - so as they work in parallel the new shipment takes 35 days.

Now if we could work out how many shipping clerks it takes to change a light bulb...

First you find out how much time would a single shipping clerk take. That means you have to multiply 15 by 7 because you multiplied the 7 clerks by 7. You get 105 days. Now to get the rate of the 3 clerks you divide the 105 by 3 (to go from single clerk to 3) and you get 35. That means that 3 clerks take 35 days to prepare a warehouse.

If C = number of clerks and N = days then C*N = number of clerk days required to complete the job.
In your problem we have C = 7 and N = 15 therefore there are 7*15 or 105 clerk days required to complete the job.

If we had only 3 clerks our formula would be 3 * N = 105. Therefore N would be 105/3 = 35. It would take 35 days to complete the job with 3 clerks.

The work required to prepare the warehouse = 7 * 15 clerk/days = 105.

Therefore if you have only 3 shipping clerks it will take them 105/3 = 35 days.

7 clerks = 15 days

1 clerk = 7 x 15 = 105 days

3 clerks = 105 divided by 3 = 35 days

7 workers 15 days
3 workers more days

you got 7 * 15 = 105 (worker x day ratio)

So it'll take 105 / 3 = 35 days to complete with 3 workers

7/3 * 15

7/3=2.33 so 7 is 2.33 times more than 3. Therefore you need 2.33 times more days to do the work so 2.33 X 15= 35 days

If they are non-union & making minimum wage it will only take them 9 days.

They're union, working class. That's how we know that the work rate is rigid. :o)
