I don't know about in the past whether it was free or not, but I think it should be now. People live and die, and that should be the one free thing that we can do, since everything else costs so much.
But even though we have no choice whether we want to be born or if we want to die, we still have to pay a hefty bill that is (for most people) more than we can afford...
It is wrong, mostly because we have no choice whether we want to or not, it just happens, and people shouldn't have to pay for something we have no control over.

Look at it this way, burial requires labor and materials. There is a cost associated with these items. Someone must dig the hole, move the body, prepare the body, tend the gravesite, provide the tombstone, provide the casket.
The only question is whom is going to pay for this. The government could pay, but that would mean raising your taxes to pay for it. Do you really want to be the one that pays for the burial of other families with more members than yours?

All states have a pauper burial policy, some require burial, some cremation, in any case, you will not find corpses laying around. You are born into this world whether you want it or not, you work your back side off all your life, some succeed, some don't, a fact of life and human nature. Everyone deserves the dignity of having their remains respected whether they have succeeded or not.

i think it should be.it would seem the right thing to do,especially at a time like that,but everyone is always after the almighty dollar.

it used to be but times have change and people are immoral thats why they charge every grieving family with lots of money to burry the dead
