OK let me define to you a few examples,weather her in the USA is made possible by the jet stream,which is a mass of air that moves west to east over the entire northern part of the planet,at high altitude's.
With this movement of air come of course,cold fronts which lift up warm air and replaces it with cold air.
(Now as the system approaches you find the the air becomes warmer,think of it as a huge scrubbing machine).
As warm air rises over colder air what ever moisture that is available will become clouds and soon form thunder storms that can be of devastating effect if there are tornado's,this kind of weather is kind of warm front scenario.After the system passes or the boundary marking were warm air and cold air in the atmosphere begins and ends,any form of water or moisture will turn into snow or freezing rain and etc;
As Artic air set in temperatures drop,this is cause by the jet stream further north dropping further south after the passing of system of low pressure,which can make one of sunshine turn to one day of frost and wintry look.
And to add to the mix if the high and low pressure areas are strong it can be very bad. low and area the is of unstable weather,high and area that is of calm sunny windy weather depending on were you live,will also determine your temps.
All this is cause by the heating of the sun and the earth rotating and spinning on its axis,which would take more time for me to explain,cheers and i hope this bit helped.

Part of a low pressure system is a warm front, and a cold front.
In the northern hemisphere, the warm front usually advances in front of a low pressure system. Therefore the air warms before the storm hits. Once the low pressure system moves through, the cold front moves through, and brings colder weather with it.

Position of jet stream has lot to do with it. Prevailing winds. High pressure and low pressure systems. Many, MANY factors involved, all very complex.
