Hi
This type of stain does leave a sticky residue. I would recommend using a wet vac and slowly pouring hot water (from a kettle) on the spot and vacuum it up at the same time to remove the sticky residue. The stain may come back in a few days so you may have to do this a few times. If the stain is still visible than use a little carpet spotter on it. The most important thing to do is rinse the stain with a wet vac and water to remove all the reside.

wipe off what you can- blot, don't scrub- that will just push the stain deeper into the carpet. Cover the stain with a liberal amount of carpet cleaner, leave it for a while, and then scrub it with hot water. Soak up the excess water with towels- just put the towel down and then stand on it. That will soak up the water and take a good amount of the honey with it. You may have to repeat this a few times. Be careful- watch for broken glass. Good luck!

This is a toughie.
You did not say what kind of carpet - wool, nylon. Does it have design, fast color, broadloom etc... your treatment depends on it.
If it is not wool and if the color is durable, use water, use plenty and soak up. Plenty of elbow grease. Plenty of patience. Work at it. Watch for broken glass.
If it is an area rug, get it professionally done. This is the only way.

If you really want it gone, hire a professional carpet cleaner.
Without a hot water rinse you sill leave a dirt attracting residue behind.

Rinse with cold water, treat with liquid detergent and rinse again. If you need to do more, treat with hydrogen peroxide and rinse.
