Hi, I recently had a c-section and while they were in there the doctor found a small fibroid. Now she said it is fairly common in African-American women. However, what exactly is a firbroid and what effects can they have on your health? And is the fact that i'm 21 and have them the norm?

I have a fibroid uterine tumor that has grown so large that they want to give me surgery & Im really scared what to do because Iv read that more people die from complications to hysterectomy than from fibroids themselves.I wish I would have known about it when it was smaller & a simple poceedure.My health is getting worse,,I have to go back & they will probably do all these tests again.Please act now while it will be much easier for you.

I have them too. I am not African-American but Caucasian.
I am 45 and I have many. Luckily fo ryou it's small. I have one now the size of a golfball! I may be facing a hysterectomy.
Keep going for ultrasounds to make sure they don't grow. I also hear that estrogen makes them grow so be careful about taking the pill. Ask your doc about this. Good luck.
