I don't know the answer of why but the punishment should be death and the same goes for child molestation. Why we tolerate this crime with mild prison terms is unfathomable to me

That is not necessarily correct. I think your question is too sexist and you should be ashamed of yourself for putting it in those words. It should be why do certain people rape other people? It is not only some men that rape, but there are some women that rape too. Taking advantage of someone that is powerless against you is wrong and should not be tolerated. These rapists are sick and they get a certain power from it. It is not just about sex, it is about control and power and that is what these people feel when they commit these crimes. There are many reports of women who have taken advantage of yonger boys and have also been showcased in the news. It is still rape, even if the under age boy consents. I have a daughter who ran away from home recently with her boyfriend and then realized she made a mistake. She was kept against her will and was raped by this boy and returned home 19 days later. He is now being charged with rape and I hope he gets what is coming to him.

Because raping antelopes and rhinos is just too difficult?

Perhaps you meant, 'why do men rape?'.

The answers are varied, and depend on the perpetrator. A lot of date rape is simply about sexual frustration and an inability to deal with rejection. Some rape is about control and domination, or revenge for mistreatment at an earlier age. Some is about anger. Sometimes, it's simply obsessive sexual desire without the control of a superego. There is no easy answer.

It's a power thing.

Sexually, men are dominant and females are submissive, I guess rape is all about controlling the other person.

A man who had a tendency to rape would also be much more likely to pass on his genes and so it has evolved as a common trait.

I think most men have had rape fantasies, and apparently it's the most common female fantasy(seeing as women are attracted to dominance etc)

However, most guys wouldn't do it in real life, and I doubt many women would enjoy being raped in real life.

That's my two cents anyway.

Exact reason for rape cannot be determined. It may be due to variety of reasons like revenge, psychological problems, to exhibit power over someone, to humiliate, to punish (like in some countries, guilty are punished by way of rape), to exhibit masculinity, due to ignorance of sex education etc.

The basic human instinct is to do what has not been experienced in the past by them. This is, perhaps, one of the major reasons behind heinous and unusual things that people do.

But at the same time we cannot say that woman are the only victims of rape. It can be with anyone. With a man or even in case of animals. Some animals exhibit behaviors that resemble rape, in particular combining sexual intercourse with violent assault, as in ducks, geese, and certain dolphin species. It is difficult to determine to what constitutes rape among animals, as the lack of informed consent defines rape amongst humans. See also Non-human animal sexuality.

Some sociobiologists argue that our ability to understand rape, and thereby prevent it, is severely compromised because its basis in human evolution has been ignored. Some argue that rape, as a reproductive strategy, is encountered in many instances in the animal kingdom. Some studies indicate that it is an evolutionary strategy for certain males who lack the ability to persuade the female by non-violent means to pass on their genes.

American social critic, intellectual, author and teacher Camille Paglia and some sociobiologists have argued that victim-blaming should not be totally dismissed in all cases, because some sociobiological models suggest that it may be genetically-ingrained for certain men and women to act in ways that would tend to raise the chances of rape occurring, and that this may be a biological feature of the species. This, of course, is a very controversial view.

I think it's supposed to be mental illness. Not all men rape, just the sick ones.

(P.S. I think there are women who rape boys and men, and men who rape boys, and women who rape girls and other women. It should be quite hard for a man to rape another man, unless he's really strong I guess)

Rape is pretty rare. And no offense to actual victims, but there are more than a few false reports of rape. To those victims of false accusation, there is little protection afforded by the law. And women can rape as well (according to the PC standard, all that the guy has to do is say "no," but in reality some women won't give up because they expect that all men always want sex).

Now to answer your question as to why it happens, I suppose it happens because a few men have sick minds. What other explanation could there be? I don't think sex is THAT good . . . . Anyway, have a nice day!

It is really the central issue that has been addressed by the feminist critique. It has to do with control, subjugation and misogyny.

The physical act is played out in non-physical ways in the cultural, societal and historical relationship between the sexes.

It's a "power" thing. I don't know how "powerful" a rapist will feel in jail when he's taking it in the butt from his cellmate Bubba. (If only that could happen to each and every one of them.)
Like everyone said, rape isn't always just from a man to a woman....but the vast majority of them are.

It's important to remember that rape is not exclusively commited by males, but to answer your question why this crime is commited, it is more about power and dominance over the victim, rather than lust.

Rape is a crime of violence. Sex is the rapist's weapon of choice. Rapists are angry, usually at a woman whom they perceive to have mistreated them (be it a mother, teacher, etc) or at their own inability to have a normal relationship with a woman. Sex isn't their goal. Pain, hurt, injury, degradation, is the object of their attack. Again, they use sex as their weapon.
