Most people will say, 'oh, get bootees for the baby and flowers for her!'

Rubbish.

When my best mate had her first, I went round there the day after she got home with a pair of rubber gloves and two day's worth of frozen ready meals - THAT's what she'll need straight off... Wait until she's got used to the baby and got herself a bit more straightened out and used to the idea and the routine before you give her anything else she's got to find a home or a use for...

It's support she'll need in the first few days - she and her bloke (assuming she has one of course) will need all the help they can get just doing boring stuff like washing up and hoovering as the new babe will keep them fully occupied for at least the first week.

After that, think about something that she can be herself with - After all, her body's just undergone the most emotional and traumatic thing that can naturally happen to it. Perhaps get her a nice selection of relaxing music, some bubble bath (preferably one that's safe to use after an epesiotomy) and a set of earplugs for humour!

Although the necessary items are always a good idea, I would think that your best friend would like something a little more personal and that would last far longer than a disposable item:) I have a 10 month old, and my best friend gave me a personalized book for the baby from www.iseeme.com. Each page is a different letter of his name, creating a sweet little story with awesome illustrations. It spells out his first and last name by the end. Although he could have cared less about it until a month or so ago -he now loves to look at it and seems to love the illustrations. It also has a nice printed note on the first page from my friend so that I'll always know who it came from.

Honestly, the BEST thing & I think something that would be original would be giving HER a gift card to a restaurant & telling her that you'd babysit that night! No one ever thinks about what the new mom needs. Of course you should buy the baby some stuff as well! If you can't do a gift card, then just offer to make her dinner or something like that.

Lots of options to buy from . Just delivered mothers can hardly go shopping and if this is her first baby chances are that she has very little idea about the things that she might need once the little one arrives! So this is a great chance to really help her out ! Here ARE A LIST of things that you could buy her--------newborn baby dresses in pure cotton
baby booties
cotton/ disposable napies
rattles
baby carry bags
turkish towels-extra soft ones
wollen sweater,booties,cap set
lullaby casettes
plastic sheets
any johnson baby products set.

I would get a keep sake box or something useful for both parents and baby.
they are quite expensive (about £30) but you can get a Bumbo seat or something similar from places like mothercare. baby wont be able to use it until its a bit older but they cant fall out of them and they help support baby and teach them to sit up on their own leaving mum/dad to have both hands free and leaving baby to be able to look around the room.
When my daughter was born we got bought about 6 packs of nappies. although its not original boy did we thank those people! its amazing how many nappies little ones get through in a day!
theres one other otion you could try... Venture studios do a family portrait for £25. the parents and baby along with other family members if wanted go along and have photos taken in different poses etc and get a pic of their choice.
they do some stylish photos, no dodgy green dappled backgrounds.
good luck.

being amother of 3 id buy her lots of bibs. you can nether have enough. plain ones for in the house and some fancy ones for when shes ready to take the baby out. Along with that a big box of soappowder to wash all babys things. Its amazing how dirty babies can get with puke and sweat. lol Apart from that just be on hand if she needs 5 minutes to herself if shes got the baby blues give hera box of tissues and your ear. Remember the dad as well if hes around. good luck

From someone who just had a baby 2 months ago...

I would suggest something special for mom like a massage. Also, something I appriciated when I had mine...while I was in hosptial, my friends came over to my house and cleaned it top to bottom, decorated it for our "homecoming". They also prepared meals so we just have to put them in the oven...lasgna, stuffed shells, casoroles etc. The labled them and put instructions on top on how to cook them. They were awsome!

Something different you could do is get her some g/c for housecleaning. It gives mom more time to spend with baby and her cleaning still gets done.

Some things for baby you could get are:

-GRIPE WATER (I never got any of this and it is soo handy for gas and sour tummies)
-Milestone book (marking their "firsts")
-Clothes (I barely got any for my showers) - sleepers are great! Also, if you can find long sleep diaper shirts...I got pants with diaper shirts, but no sweaters or anything...and I had an October baby...too cold for t-shirts.
-A keepsake box. I have 2 of them. I have kept her first outfit in it, braclets from hosptial, cards from showers etc.
-You can purchase a birth annoucnement package from your local newspaper. My mom did this for me...it included a birth announcement, a spot in the babies of the year special edition paper and when my daughter turns one, a spot to announce that. I keep a copy of these in her keepsake box.

Hope these ideas help you out. The most important thing is to be there when she needs you, and even when she doesn't. It's always nice for someone to take baby so mom can soak in the tub or so shopping for herself. Good luck!

This isn't really all that original but I would say diapers and wipes. That was my favorite present from my showers. It is something that is always going to be used. Or you could get her a gift certificate for a day at a spa so she can take a day and relax.

in case you do not prefer to be attentive to, ascertain which you do enable the ultrasound technician be attentive to up front! i in my opinion had to be attentive to, yet they could not tell at my sixteen week test. I switched docs around 20 weeks and the recent one suggested that he does not order yet another ultrasound until there became something incorrect and that i became fairly bummed that i does not get to confirm if it became a toddler. My previous healthcare expert never despatched my scientific data, even with the shown fact that, so I did finally end up having one around 26 weeks and found out that I might desire to be having a woman. optimistically they have been suited, or i'll have one renowned, crimson-donning boy!
