I think that the greatest music artist ever is hands down Michel Jackson, He made "Thriller" but all jokes aside his music was great and he had the largest fans base and no matter what the still love him.

I feared i might want to get in trouble with my mom for listening to song with cuss words in it. yet besides... Blink 182 were given me into punk. Then I were given into ska. Then I went by way of a metallic section. So\hard to answer, so many genres and everyone will have their own opinion. For me its David Bowie, not just for his music but for the influence hes had on later musicians

not possible to say. too many genres etc. how do you compare presley, sinatra, callas,nero (said to be a good singer!),garland etc.. best you can probably do is select a top 5 from specified genres. you will then get a clearer overall picture and could then maybe narrow it down from that to one overall "GREATEST"
My very own favourite is "billy fury" from the uk in the50's onwards
