If the IRA kidnapped two British Soldiers, instead of Hizbolla kidnapping two israeli soldiers and the British retaliated by bombing Dublin International Airport, all the major road, sea and rail links out of Ireland, the petrol stations and the energy plants, and then targets in residential areas, Britain would have been internationally condemned for a unilateral declaration of war and of gross breaches of International law. What makes Israel any different?

Israel is "special" because they fight Arabs. Don't you just love double standards?

Oh, and I'm sure I'm going to get called an anti-Semite because I don't agree with everything Israel does.

Great question, BTW

I always felt Israel used the wrong tactics when it came to those two kidnapped soldiers. I'm not sure what they should have done, but they shouldn't have started a war over it. And I personally condemn them for it.

Just like in your scenario I would condemn England if they were to do something like that to Ireland instead of using other means to get the soldiers back.

I know some will say, but they did try other methods first. But in my eyes it went from negotiating to fighting way too quickly and it was only do to two men. To me that isn't a good enough reason to start a war. Oh and just because Hezbola talks big and states we are going to push Isreal into the sea, you still need more then two kidnapped soldiers to go to war.

Well, what if the IRA, and the Irish weren't looked at as worth the trouble? The Palestinians have been kicked around for all of recorded history, the Jews only since the end of WWII have enjoyed their homeland.

The rest of the world has allowed the Jews, Palestinians and Arabs (and the other waring ethnic tribes) to go as far as they wanted not because of any other reason than oil. A fragile "stability" has been allowed to fester to the brink of all hell breaking loose for decades. There is no easy solution, but since Israel and Jordan are the only real west friendly governments over there they get too much slack in these areas.

It's a slippery slope with no easy answers.

If there was nothing under the sand over there, would we care at all? Look at Dafur, Sri Lanka, and other turbulent parts of the world. No oil, no interference, kill who you want. If you help us to do X, you get more latitude to do what you want, like Israel and it's Barbarian styled military. The real question is wouldn't it be the other way around if the Jews were the ones under the Palestinians boot? Probably not, it would just be a reshuffling of who's butt to kiss to keep the Middle East from being a quagmire of death and war.

Far from being a similar situation, it is a bogus analogy.

To begin with, a hostile Non-governmental independent terrorist militia is not on England's border or controlling a significant portion of Ireland.

This terrorist militia that does not exist, is not firing hundreds of rockets at English towns.

These simple facts make your premise a work of ignorance and bias. I suppose it fools the typical ignorant liberal...
--------
A more realistic and truthful scenario would be if, say, Baja California was controlled by drug cartels that were funded and armed by Hugo Chavez, and ruled the area with their militia. They would, for years, occassionally lob mortar shells, artillery shells and rocket grenades over the US border, occassionally attacking the border guards and shoot at them.

Then, in a larger attack, they capture US border guards, while also firing hundreds of rockets at San Diego. We also then find out they plan to fly the prisoners to Caracas. The only reasonable response would be to bomb the airport and attack.

Your scenario ignores the facts - it seems only a ruse to further bash Israel.

The IRA's fight is about independence from England. Not destruction of England.

Israel has the right to defend its right to survival. Hezbollah is on record with its desire to "push Israel into the sea."

Nothing unless you have a chip on your shoulder and feel that you are Gods special chosen people . Then you can do no wrong and because you have suffered so through out history it is your duty to protect yourself in any manner you see fit .
This is what the people of the occupied lands of Palestine teach the children and prepare them to kill those around them .
