A family physician or pediatrician can usually provide general gynecologic health care for young women, he says. "There isn't any reason for those under the age of 18 to see a gynecologist, unless they are sexually active or are having reproductive health concerns." For teenagers, that might include painful periods, heavy periods, ovarian cysts, vaginal discharge, lack of periods (amenorrhea), or contraception issues.

Routine Pap smears to test for cervical cancer don't usually begin until age 21, or 3 years after a woman has first been sexually active

From the time that the girl had her first sexual relationship. It doen't matter what age she has, but if she starts having sex she has to go to a gynecologist for a check up for sexual transmitted deseases. It's good for her own health and also for the bf that she has next to her!

i agree with when ever she becomes sexually acitive but i perfer before that.... when she starts or is showing signs of starting menstration. there is education that can happen there and an opportunity for asking questions. for younger girls a woman practioner should be used...and never ever have a young girl go in unatteneded by another female...but perably not her mom...

I started going to the gynecologist once I started having sex. so it all depends on you and your mom and dad if you still live with them.
