Not really.

Whatever hegemony exists is far too de-centralized.
Propaganda may be pervasive, but most leaders are hardly the architects of any "New World Order", but self-interested actors vying for ever greater capital. Family values and religion will be mainstays for a long long time. Because constructing a deliberate world with intellectual stratification is massively inefficient when we get the same results in virtue of social inequality and neglect.

There may be some subtle similarities involving the encroachment of government into the social spectrum, but really we're a long way off from establishing any utopian scenarios that will actually benefit us and be efficient when the liberal-anarchic structures suit us fine with increasing returns.

The world is wonderful however; I think we as humans need much improvement. That would bring my answer to a no I do not think we live in a Brave New World. I think we are to busy tearing up the old one all the while we sit back and let humanity and personal freedoms go down the tube. To me that is not the definition of brave.

We are evolving towards it.

As far back as Ben Franklin, writers have written about stuff - stretching it to an extreme point. That seems to get people to wake up and consider DO WE WANT TO GO THERE? And sometimes, they take action to do something about going down that path.

He once wrote a story in his newspaper about a pothole in the dirt road. That it was so bad, that a traveler, on his horse, had disappeared in it several days ago and hadn't been seen since. People laughed about it. Then thought about it - and went and filled in the pothole. Can you image someone doing that today?

I'd agree with that, and I'm thinking it's definitely not going to be doubleplusgood!

You know, sometimes I wish I hadn't read that book...!

If you want another scary 'vision of the future'-style book, try reading 'The Sleeper Awakes' by H G Wells (can be accessed online for free on www.gutenberg.org) - that's freaky, given that he couldn't have seen half the things he describes... It's often overlooked but offers an interesting look at modern society through a C19th window...

Enjoy!

only when people have an open mind then we can conquer and explore the Brave New World

Cos its a brave new world that we live in,
as we lose ourselves.... tonight,
we have no control of our feelings,
as we journey to the corner of our minds

See Charlotte Church says we do, so we must!

Do you mean the book, Shakespeare line, or song?

I remember the book, and it got me thinking, it IS kind of weird that we come from vaginas and sperm from penises. People always cringe when they think of their parents procreating, so it isn't hard to see people eliminating the whole pregnancy thing altogether and start growing babies in test tubes.

We are amazingly close. There is one difference though. The triumph of darwinist capitalism and failures of the Soviet Union and Mao's revolution during the 20th century proved that social engineering does not work. I do like those 'Holidays' though.
