You could try reinstalling the PC. boot it up from the Windows installation CD and follow the instructions. When you get to a point wher they ask you if you want to format or leave the current filessytem intact, choose the option to leave the current filesystem intact. This is to make sure that your files, music videos etc is still on the PC. at this point it will ask you if you want to erase the previous Operating system or repair it. The best solution would be to repair but the problem with that is that if you where infected then the viruses are still there. the other solution would be to remove the current OS and put in a new one: in this case the installer erases all the contents of C:\windows and puts in a new OS and you will need to go to C:\documents and settings to access the data that was stored in My documents. I would advise to cut and paste all your data out of My documents first.
The rest is just following the instructions in the windows installation program. After that you would need to reconfigure stuff like printers and network cards and other peripherals if windows hasn't automatically installed the drivers.
good luck.

IF you have the restore disk that came with the computer.

Copy your stuff to a CD - I'm assuming you have very little personal items on it if you recently got it.

Bring up a command prompt: C: Fdisk

That will remove EVERYTHING from the drive. Then reboot with the restore CD in the CD drive, you will be prompted to format and then install.

If you use Fdisk - you will not have anything on your hard drive - so make sure you have the restore disk with the OS on it before you run it.\

The above will remove anything that was not yours and ensure that you have a clean install.

Nifty little program is erase. This will overwrite selected files, directories, or open space on the computer. (Be careful on what files you erase!)

Now if you have problems accessing files or programs, you might need to test the hard drive I use Spin Rite. (If you get this and it finds problems, you should consider a new had drive.)
