declaring Sovergeinty?

if you found a island that wasnt claimed by another nation could you claim Sovergeinty over it? like sealand

Doesn´t matter if you do as long as the U.N. does not recognize you.

Someone would have to recognize you as an official state to become a proper nation but you could organize a de facto government, mint money, and start creating laws. If I were in that position, the first thing I would do is remove myself (and nation) from the nuclear non-proliferation treaty!
