In America you have prom parties, well what do we call a party like that here in England where we have to wear a ball gown?
Only i'm going to organise one for my birthday. Oh and if you know any good websites where they have pics of how the room is set out and some pics of ball gowns i would very much appreciate it!
Thanks for your help xx

In America they really only have After-Prom parties or Anti-Prom parties they dont have a prom actually for their birthday or an end of year prom different than the schools or basically any occasion. So like the others have said a ball which is formal (a birthday ball) or simply a party but on the invitations just write formal dress.
For your ball gowns not really a place you can buy but pictures for ideas:

And for the Room Layout :

Hope this helps!!

A ball is usually where we can wear formal dresses but they are sometimes called a 'black tie event'. In england they still have proms and things because we had one at my old school. Cocktail Parties are also like this but they are more informal than a ball or a black tie event. Hope this helps and enjoy your Birthday hope you get loadsa presents xox

At this time of year it would be a Winter Ball. You could also say it was a coctail party which is kinda cool or a black tie dinner, all though thats a very formal occaision.

They're known as balls or black tie events. Or even cocktail parties.
Just invite people to your birthday party and say that it's black tie - the guys will all be in dinner jackets and bow ties, and the girls will all be in pretty ball dresses!
