My infant is 2 1/2 months old and when he has gas I use gripe water, and I find it doesn't work that well...what else can I try? Thanks.

I agree with the people suggesting Mylicon (or it's store-brand version) - it works well. The suggestions of burping the baby very thoroughly and massaging his tummy are also good ones. Also, when he gets gassy, if you lay him across your legs, tummy down, and pat his back, that will give him some relief. Another thing that works well is to put your feet up on the coffee table, and then put him on your legs, facing you. Take his little legs and "bicycle" them. The motion can get things moving, and he'll also have a chance to look at you, which he'll love.

On another note, if you use a bottle, it's a good idea to not let him drink it all - he'll suck down extra air, producing extra gas. As for the kind of bottle, I recommend Playtex VentAire - they have many parts, which is good for making sure the bottle is clean, and it's good at getting all the air out of the bottle.

Also, if you feed him formula, you might want to try some different kinds. Enfamil GentleEase works well, as does Similac Advance Isomil. Both of these have store brands that work just as well as the name brands, which is great for your budget! If you breastfeed exclusively, I'd recommend talking to your doctor about what foods to avoid that upset baby's tummy.

Good luck!

My daughter is 2 1/2 months old as well. She has the exact problem. I have spoken to my doctor about it at every visit. He suggested gripe water. I have used that, and I honestly don't see a difference.

He told me at our last appointment (Jan 3) that babies usually outgrow the gas around 3 months and to just bare with it until then. I asked about switching formula or switching the bottles to the bagged bottles (if yours is bottle fed) and he said that there has been studies done where they tried all these things and the results were all the same so he said I could try it, but he doubted that there would be an improvement.

I just hold my daughter against my stomach (holding her sideways, her tummy to mine) and walk around a little or swey...it seems to help her alot.

Hope this helps and good luck :)

take a 1/2 oz was water and a peppermiint candy at the bottom of the bottle. Peppermint helps in digestion thats why they have them at most resturants. I used this with my son he was a little bit older but it seems towork as well as the mylocon drops did. one thing about those drops iwas told that babys can become dependent on them adn my have a hard time passing any gas with out them..try leg exercises with the baby you strech there legs out and then push them up twards there belly.that is an exercise/activity i found in a book 1 month is when they said to do it and i found that when i did that with my son he would fart almost everytime.

The best advice I got from my doc was: Pump breast milk rather than nursing for a few days, discard the foremilk (first 1 minute of slow pumping) and feed only the hindmilk. To much of the foremilk can apparently cause a temporary lactose intolerance and is "gassier". Also, try different burping positions. Lay baby on his/her back and play with the legs, this helps move gas (in anyone). Then move to gripe water (works great on my baby) and finally Ovol! Good Luck.

Infants Mylicon drops or generic simethicone. It's just baby Gas-X. I find that if I don't get good burps from baby after a feeding I'm getting gas from baby a couple of hours later. Good luck!

Hi Stacey....

1) Always be on time on his feeding time. Any delays will cause wind to accumulate.

2) Always burp the child after his feeds and between feed per
ounce consumed. Ensure he is well positioned ( meaning upright in sitting position rub down from his back downwards.

3) Use Vicks Vaporub and rub on to his tummy in small amounts

4) use Gripe water in specified amount.

Hope this works...

Good luck

I've never had much luck with the over the counter stuff.. and I don't really like to use 'Western Medicine'.

What I do, when a baby has gas is put them accross my thighs face down and rub their back (mostly lower back, and remember to support 'em!). I try and put whichever leg is under their abdomen a little higher than the other. It's always worked for me, and my family.

Sorry for my English if ever ı make mistakes:)I am not a native...

It is advisable to heat some amount of salt(like a glass of salt)in a pot and to put that salt in a thick cotton thing or a soft towel may be...after wrapping that cloth with hot salt in carefully (to avoid burns)place the babe on that cloth facing the cloth and hotness on his tommy area and holding the baby on your shoulder and massaging slowly ,in circles and sometimes from bottom to upwards...one more thing is never feeding the baby each time he/she cries...baby might not well digest the milk given a while before...keep the feet hot as well:)happy, healthy, wealthy years for your baby and all other members of the family:)god bless you all...

I would not suggest giving any of those over the counter meds. Your baby is too young and most drs don/t suggest it either. Just burp often during a feeding and try different positions to burp. Check your local hospital and see if they offer baby massage classes and they can show you some really good ideas for helping with gas problems. Good luck

If you want to go the natural route I can highly recommend either ginger or fennel tea (watered down). They have been around for years and worked well for me. If you're looking for a quick easy fix, try Little Remedies Gas Drops they also work well. Good luck with your little one.
