The reason I am asking is because I attend a private college and many of my friends tell me that is always better to attend a public college and that private colleges are just wana be colleges. In the past I tried going to a public college but I did not like it, to seek help from a teacher you must arrange an apointment, and what I like about the college that I am currently attending is that the teachers are always there for you. Please just give me your opinion this is getting on me and I don't want to think I wasted my time.

No, thats not the case. In fact private schools often have a higher status than public schools. As someone else mentioned, Ivy League schools like Harvard, Yale etc.. are private. Its assumed that private schools have a lower teacher to student ratio, so presumably you are getting a better education. Not always true, of course :)

The only problem I could think of was if you were attending a very small private school that was not accredited. This was the case at one of the schools I applied to. If its not a well known school you would have to look into that. If they were not accredited the degree would not hold much merit, and most graduate schools would not accept it if you wanted to continue your education after your Bachelor's degree.

You need smarter friends. Seriously. Not only will they become more successful, they sort of drag you along through encouragement, etc.

The absolute most prestigious universities in the US are all private. The top public doesn't come in until the bottom of the top 10. Going to one doesn't make you look more or less professional than the other.

The point of college is to get you an education and a degree which will hopefully lead you to a career you like. Whichever is more successful in that goal (public or private) is the one that's right for you. What you described about teachers always being there for you is one of the most cited reasons small private colleges give in why you should choose them. For people who need that, that can mean the difference btw success and failure in college.

So, stay where you are. And seriously, find new friends. Make new ones at the college you're at or something.

By "private" do you mean you attend the University of Phoenix or another commercial college? If so, the answer is Yes. Many do not consider those degrees legitimate.

Or

By "private" you mean you attend a prestigious school like Wesleyan University or Yale? Then the answer is No. Stay in school at Columbia or Cornell University or whichever of the fancy private colleges you are attending.

In my opinion it shouldn't make a difference if you go to a private or public college or university. Some things to remember though. If you decided to go to a private school make sure they are accredited. If they are not that might hinder you in the job market. Also private colleges are more expensive so you might want to remember that when figuring out tuition. You might also want to try an online college, you can get more individual attention in those types of situations.

It depends on where you are. In the United States, private colleges are generally more highly regarded. Though there are some very good public colleges.

No!!! The result of your work in your job is what makes U a professional. If I went to a 5-A high school & U went to a 3-A is my diploma better than yours? I don't want to get carried away on this but it's what U do that matters, not where U came from. Hope this helps U.

not really but keep in mind if you are not in like a good private schoool then it might affect you trying to get in a good job because you are likely to be accepted by a private college than a public college since a private college do need students, and people in the "real" world do look at that

who are these friends that are giving you this advice? they are idiots. public universities are typically easier to get into than private universities and their average gpas are generally lower than private schools as well. one of the great perks of a private university is just what you stated, that they professors are more one on one with you therefore they will be more likely to aid you when it comes time for a job/graduate school. your friends are probably jealous.

however, if you are talking about those online schools then they are right. online schools are real colleges/universities and will do little to help you professionally, BUT they are also NOT called private schools.

Tell your friends they are nuts.

Plus what does "professional" mean to you? Hey Harvard, Yale and all the rest are private colleges. Make good grades, be active in college, and you will land a job.

Your friends are just jealous.
All of the ivy league schools are private. Ask your friends is their school is better than Yale or Harvard.

It's actually the other way around, private schools are WAY better. I went to one and got into a wonderful grad school.
