Buying a wireless card would give your computer the ability to access wireless internet, but you still need a wireless internet source.
To do this, you need to buy a wireless router (about $50 at any computer shop). Hook your router up to your cable system, and it will transmit a wireless signal to your laptop.

if u want a home wireless network, go buy a ADSL modem, a device that converts ur internet line to wirless. If ur laptop is old, or doesnt have wireless built in, buy a wireless adapter and connect it. US Robotics is the brand i use, it offers the modem and a wireless adapter as well. Keep in mind, there are some other good companies like linksys, speedtouch, and so on.
FYI, you must have a modem or a network in range to connect.

You need to have a wireless router, (it looks like your cable modem) that allows to send the signal to the laptop, and you need a wireless card in your laptop, the majority of new laptops come with an integrated wireless card.

Make sure that what you have there is a modem/router.If it is just a simple modem then you need to purchase a router(---follow the installation guide of the router).Check if your laptop has a built in wireless card (most laptop does)---Right click on My Computer then select Properties.Click on Device Manager under Hardware tab.
Check for anything that says WLAN or wireless 802.11 b/g under Network Adapters. If you have a wireless adapter, make sure to check that the device is working properly under Device Status.
Go to Start >> Run and type in services.msc and click OK.
Double-click on Wireless Zero Configuration.
Under the General tab, change the Startup Type to Automatic.
Click Apply.
Click Start button under Service Status.
Click OK to complete the process.
Click on Start menu then go to Control Panel
Right click on the Wireless Network Connection icon & select View Available Networks
Click on the name of your Network & click on the Connect button. It will ask for the Network key, code in the network/wep key of your router & click on Connect again.
Open up a browser & try to browse.

even as there is a few thing referred to as "information superhighway Connection sharing" outfitted into homestead windows XP, it calls for a minimum of a hub/change for both pcs to plug into, and is no longer significant compared to utilising a router- the relationship on the second one device often dies after awhile (each so often very few hours) requiring a reboot. in case your significant laptop had 2 community playing cards, you are able to also try utilising a crossover cable (keep in options you want 2 actual connections- one between pcs and one to the web), yet lower back this isn't practically as good as a faithful piece of hardware alongside with a router. Routers are airborne dirt and dust low-priced- fantastically with on the spot ones promoting for in consumer-friendly words $50 sparkling, you are able to likely get a used conventional previous router for $20 (an identical value as a community card) So grab secondhand router like a Linksys BEFSR41 or D-link DI-604 (which have a outfitted-in 4-port change) and experience free!
