You need to contact the headquarters for Wal-Mart. Most local managers and employees are clueless when it comes to customer service for people with disabilities. Also they are clueless when it comes to the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Often times when the headquarters are notified they can take care of the situation and help train the managers on how to deal with disability access. If they provide carts, they need to be functioning.

This is happening in Dallas also. Last year I attempted to shop at two different Walmart Stores. There were no handi ride carts available. This week I have made several attempts to shop at the Walmart by my home. One handi-ride cart with a sign stating not working. I ask an employee if there were any available, he responded that I need to go to the customer service desk. I have several health issues. I needed some things and was not able to get everything because of the pain. I lean on a basket and slowly walk in pain. When I got to the check-out counter only one register open and the line was about 6 people deep. Forced to go through self check-out. I also stop using their pharmacy because of the continuous rudeness of the staff in the pharmacy. Now I use Walmart. They are always short on meat. The cashier are slow and customers service is horrible.

For large companies, they are required by law to provide reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities. I would say service carts are reasonable accommodations for a company like Walmart. I would go to the manager and inform his that under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1992, he must provide service carts for you and if he doesn't you take him to court. That should get him to help you out. If he doesn't, by all means take him to court because he is breaking the law.

i'd complain to someone higher up at corporate or wherever until this gets resolved. that manager doesn't need to act like an ahole. that's ridiculous that you can't shop because of that. it just seems like poor customer service to not even try to bend overbackwards to help you out. that manager is a real jerk. call paul harvey.

as for not returning them inside -- they should have the greeter help people out with that. a disabled person can't ride that thing to their car, unload and be expected to ride it back to the store and then WALK back to their car.

complain and do all you can to fix this -- you may not be the only one who has had problems with this store and it's jerk manager

the best recourse you have is to write your local newspaper and let them know how you have been treated by walmart. large companies dont like this kind of publicity and they will change their policy right away. when i have been disatisfide with a company i have always written a letter to the main office so the higher ups can see what is going on and i have always gotten a good response to my letters. and on top of that they always send me a gift card to use at their store for at least 30 dollars. most of the time more but i think that depends on how big the company is.

I would definitely file a complaint at Bentonville, AR. I know several smaller Walmarts that manage to keep their carts working.

DON'T SHOP AT WAL-MART.
Of course they're discriminating against you. They also discriminate against the disabled in hiring. Maybe you could be a greeter, but you would never be a manager.
Screw Them!
