LimeWire is safe to use, but it does install SpyWare on the computer. This will not mess up the computer but it will really anoy you as well as slow down the computer as well. Keep in mind that what ever you install on a computer does iffect the Hard Drive.. The hard drive is the only part of the computer that has moveing parts. The more you download or add to a computer the more harder the hard drive has to work. In time it can just become way to much over loaded.
Sounds as if your father had to have a new hard drive installed.

Limewire is not safe you are dependent upon other people posting content that will not cause harm to your computer. The content is loaded with viruses, worms, adaware, spyware and mulware. If you are intent on using Limewire, or any other peer to peer then you must take certain safeguards first. Make your your antivirus program is current, if you are running Symantec 2005, update to Symantec 2007 (this goes for any other anti virus application, if the scan engine is not current, it does not matter if your definitions are up to date, you will still be susceptible to virus attack and infection), You need a good firewall (Symantec has the number one rate firewall, but Zonealarm is good too), make your you have spyware/adaware utilities installed also, such as spybot search and destroy, adaware se, hijack this, blacklight rootkit killer, a-squared, windows defender (do not just choose one of these, install them all, as one will find something that another will not). Your best bet is to go with an internet security suite. Below is an article reviewing all of the suites plus a review of the top rated product, Symantec Internet Security Suite 2007, which got their Editors Choice Award. Your best best is to avoid peer to peer and use bit torrent instead.

Limewire will mess it up again because the files you download are the problem not the program. Anti spy and anti virus are useless if you download something and ok it to be received.

Limeware is safe as long you don't download things with virus. Remember if you gonna use it for music, you could get in trouble for downloading illegal music files. Then again you could turn off sharing and uploading. Downloading something like peer gaurdian also help too, if you gonna download stuff of the internet. There are alternative for music, you just have to search hard.

It's okay, if you have Norton and Spysweeper. But don't forget to update those programs regulary. So they can catch the latest viruses.
